It’s amazing how heartless this “business” can make people.
It’s amazing how many people think we need to live in a welfare state. CARES is great but it’s as close as I hope we every one to socialism.

you currently work for a company that’s losing 20 million dollars a day and has burned through several billion dollars trying to operate. If you think for one second they are going to keep losing $1 more than they need to then you are dilusional. Now try me later when they furlough while they are making $1 and I will give you a different answer.

the airlines that mitigated furlough did so temporarily. They will not continue to waste hundreds of millions or billions of dollars to keep employees sitting at home collecting pay checks. Southwest as even said as much.

that’s just dumb business.

And here I thought the CARES Act was a chance of fixing the mismanagement of the pandemic.

Dumb business is ****ing on every single employee. Southwest knows that as well.

Are you seriously advocating paying people to do nothing indefinitely? Have you ever paid anyone to do anything? Hey next time why don't you pay them an extra couple hundred to do nothing. Your position is unbelievably stupid.

Indefinitely? But wait, I thought we all wanted something good to come back to?

No furloughs!

Their CEO's look at leaves as an investment in their corporation.(which is smart).

If Kirby is smart he will do the same.

There are very few things in aviation more expensive than a disgruntled, ****ed off pilot.

One week operating loss for 20-30 years of goodwill seems like a good investment to me.
Those airlines are much smaller than United and have completely different business models. Our model depends on large amounts of high dollar business and international travel. Southwest has the biggest pile of cash. They are buying some time hoping to grab market share in a rapid recovery, but they have said that furloughs will happen if the recovery is not soon, or if it is slow. I hope you’re being sarcastic about no furloughs or paid leaves when we’re burning through more than $1,000,000 per hour. If not, may God help us.

Are you referring to the airline or the contract?

That’s always the separation, isn’t it? Neither is happy that the other succeeds.

I dunno about that. If the airline succeeds financially I'm "expecting" a fat contract to make me happy.

Also, if the company burns through mountains of borrowed cash financing more lucrative early outs and paid leaves, my bet is that when we do recover and get everyone back, we’ll be too busy for years paying back loans to even consider that fat contract or updating our aging fleet.

Yep. I think that was mentioned by someone within the company that priority number one is the debt.
