Ummm......Every airline has an FOM that is approved by an FAA POI. Next time you're in the sim or a Fed is in your jumpseat, why don't you try deviating from that federally mandated guide and see how it turns out. Beginning to wonder if you are really a pilot or just an internet troll.

What's the point of this whole conversation? Is there really a question about whether or not the federal government dictates the conduct of our operations???

I don’t know what the hell is the point of this entire thread? Atleast we’re talking about something else for a minute.

the FAA has an opinion of course but their opinion is certainly NOT do it like Delta.

sure we OPERATE by the FARs.....we FLY by SOP. The FARs/FOM say thou shalt land their airplane on a runway. Standards (who are pilots) lay out how we intend to land on the runway in the more controlling FM. So therefore pilots tell pilots how to FLY.....Andy is correct that the company nor the FAA tell us HOW to fly our aircraft.

jetlaggy I’m quoting this post again to respond. The FAA does not tel is how to fly. They tell us how to OPERATE. There is a difference. They give all airlines the same template and then each airline creates their own SOPs. United flies their aircraft different than every other airline. Some things may be close but they are certainly NOT 100%. That should have been obvious during the merger.
most obvious example. CAL CAs started and shut down the engines. UAL FOs started and shut down the engines. The FAA didn’t care as long as they saw the correct pilot start and shutdown the engines.
