No, it would just mean that some wouldn't trigger furloughs until a few days after 1OCT.

My point is, why wait a few days after? It makes no sense. Why pay everyone for a partial month when they don’t have to?

And yet there's no early retirement packages announced.

Management is playing their cards close to the vest for now and we don't know what they've got up their sleeves. I'll speculate that since they haven't announced an early retirement package AND we're flying all of our 787s, they may have something bold cooking that they're trying to keep under wraps for as long as possible.
Further speculation: there may be a huge hole in international flying that will need to be filled due to so many foreign carriers being in serious trouble.

Still, I find it odd that they didn't just send out a ton of furlough notices (which can be rescinded) last week. Have any of the other majors sent out furlough notices yet?
As of this writing no US airline, Major, LCC or regional has sent furlough notifications.(Outside of training furloughs). I expect the first splash to cause a waterfall. Nobody wants to be first.

What do you mean when you say you haven’t posted Names? What names are you referring to? You’ve stayed away from this thread because you don’t want to add to the speculation. I suggest you take your own advice
Blue,

Initially all I did was agree with something that another poster had posted. That’s all. I was then asked who I’d heard my info from and essentially what numbers I’d heard. I responded to that and explained what I meant, as much as I could. I couldn’t post a source and it’s not hard to work out why but let’s face it, any credible info is either going to come from a Company source or an ALPA source. Pick one and you’ve got a 50/50 chance of being right.

As far as the number of WARN letters versus initial furloughs and the timeline of how the letters may go out, I suggest you read both the ALPA email from last week and the company blurb they put on FT today regarding WARN letters. Essentially, they could send out thousands of WARN letters today and furlough letters for 2300 tomorrow or any time up until 60 days prior to Oct 1st. They’ve already past the 90 day requirement for Oct 1st, so I can’t see them furloughing more than 2300 in the initial round. WARN letters are required to start the furlough ball rolling and put into effect any help or assistance the company is required to offer those who are ultimately furloughed. If they decide to furlough more, they’ve already WARNed them, if you will, so it’s one less step they have to take with any additional furloughs. IF THEY HAPPEN

After living through three previous furloughs in my career, I'm gonna disagree slightly.

While nobody wants to be first, each company is gonna give whatever notifications are required by law and their union contracts. Sometimes those dates will match and sometimes they won't given the variety of contracts and local laws.

They'll size the airline for their plan and the chips will fall where they may.

thanks for clarifying that. I confused WARN letters with an official furlough notice

No worries. I appreciate the reply and if it helps to put it into perspective, I’m expecting a letter.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe they can literally send out 13,000 WARN LETTERS tomorrow. They can furlough 2300ish 1 Oct and the other 10,700 1 Nov if they want...

When I was on furlough, both times, the system seniority system list as well as the base rosters indicated who was on furlough. I don’t remember if there was anything on the ALPA site, but I believe that when recalls started there was a furlough list published. Furloughees had limited access to Flyingtogether and could see those lists. I doubt there will be access to CCS, but you never know.

Good Luck to us all.
