oh, I know...been there before... A Chief Pilot in 2008 literally told me to enjoy my furlough..They had me scheduled for a reserve assignment on Labor Day weekend and I told him to pound sand..08 Sep 2008 furloughed

Is a 90 day notice contractual? If not.. Which of your domiciles have a 90 day notice? Most states WARN act is 60 days.

It is contractual if you were hired before January 23, 2016.

I sincerely don’t think the company has an idea of how many furloughs they want to push out the door.
So far it doesn’t look like they’ve communicated that number to the Union. Other Airlines are positioning themselves to minimize or negate furloughs, which also plays a factor because whoever retains the most pilots Will likely have a strong recovery. And for my beloved senior guys, Kirby has stated many times that he wants to work with the union on a temporary ALV (the forum favorite subject) to give him the flexibility to keep everyone. Too many factors which lead to no decision, which is a good thing for everyone.

Good point, NY has a 90 day WARN act requirement. Not sure of airline are exempt due to RLA or not.

Default Notes from 9/11 and August 2008

I went back to look at some notes I wrote down back in 2001 and 2008 for LUAL. Feel free to correct if you were here since I scribbled these in my log book...I just scratched things in as I heard them so I could be way off. Correct as needed but in both previous flows there seemed to be chunks of 500 to a 1000. From other notes it looked like the quickest return from the 9/11 furlough was a little under three years. The quickest LUAL straight return was around 3.5 years after the 2008 melt down. Apologies if I'm off...

Sept 15...475 to be cut, should be safe since I'm 1300 ish from bottom, CPO says bankruptcy not possible

Thanksgiving...looks like another 395 for sure...CEO says bleeding cash...

December 19 ...300 now, another 300 Feb

February 7...I'm toast this summer..another 400-425 final total around 2300

March 20ish...Phone call from CPO

August 2008 ... grounding all 737s furloughs to follow

December ... looks like another 500 with 300-500 more in April

I went on Mil Leave in January but was furloughed I think in the late Spring 2009

Great history lesson.

The key takeaway here is the fact that nobody knows anything since it's predicting the future.

The company will size itself to whatever target it's aiming for but the target will also constantly change. We just don't know if there will be more good news or bad news in the coming months that will cause the most changes to the plan.

FYI from C12 this evening:

Cancellation of July 8th Council 12 Meeting

Keeping Council 12 pilots informed is our most important priority. We planned the Council 12 meeting on July 8th in anticipation of the company sharing their future staffing plans relating to furloughs prior to the July 4th Holiday weekend. Due to the lack of communication at this time with any specifics regarding the number or timeline of furloughs, we are cancelling the July 8th Council 12 meeting. We will schedule a meeting when the company has provided more clarity on their manpower plans.

Cancelling so soon? The 8th is Wednesday. I was thinking if it wasn’t just before the holiday it would be the Monday after, the 6th....so as to let people enjoy their burgers and dogs before they have to think about going on food stamps. Also, the next FO town hall is Thur the 9th. That could indicate it will be Friday...so they can hide behind a CCS message for the weekend.
