United Posts $2.1 Billion Dollar Loss for Q1
This- was put into a phrase officially a short while ago “We have cut approximately 80% of our capacity for April and currently expect to cut 90% of our capacity for May, with similar cuts expected for June. We plan to proactively evaluate and cancel flights on a rolling 60-day basis until we see signs of a recovery in demand for travel.”
60 day basis? I hope that doesn’t mean they will cut 60 days out. Too far. I’m just a dumb pilota.
I want everyone safe and employed.
Glad we plugged in already for more fed Money. Take as much as we can. I hope bailout two is in works by mid June to stave off furloughs through next June. Best to us all.

If you’re worried about BK and the disappearance of UAL, well it is truly out of your control.
The fact CAL and UAL survived to merge wasn’t because of brilliant and crafty management. Nor was it because the two would make a better single airline.
Why will UAL exist into the future? Because the banking/finance industry decides it wants it to. Yes that simple. If there’s something in it for the lenders and investors then it will survive, and if not they will cut their losses and let it liquidate to start a new.
There is a little pixie dust available when it comes down to deal making at the highest financial levels. It is also why the heal biters are the first to be sacrificed.

if ALPA leadership holds the line then we'll see. It depends on the nutt-cutting priorites at ALPA.
If it's all about simple "numbers" of members then ALPA will do what it always does.
I recall what ALPA was saying in 2003 and 2004 as the majors were coming out of their 9-11 "funk." The mesage was...."We're taking it back." I think I even have some bag tags and bag stickers in the laundry room.
If it puts quality jobs over quantity jobs and they emphasize the long term benefit of a stable profession then we all win in the long run.
Maybe we will take it back.... It really depends on ALPA's long term vision.

Airline credit cards are underwritten by the big banks, I believe, who also hold much of our debt.
Vested interest to keep us alive.

Anyone fly on AA regularly for the past few years? The pitches for the credit cards are mind-boggling. FA welcome aboard you get pitched, automated announcement you get pitched, try and start watching a movie you get pitched, another FA pitch towards the end of the flight. Oh, and all done at ear-shattering volume. Super annoying. Not sure how their high-fliers don’t throw a fit with corporate.
Pretty soon, the Captains will be doing them.

This. I have read, years ago, that the REAL money-maker of UAL or DAL are the credit cards. The flight attendants are supposed to hawk them every flight (very noticeable the last two years on RJs); I’ve been told they get $50 for every new person that signs up.
