Default Why hasn’t United offered early retirements?

Talking with my friends at Delta and American it sounds like they have an early out retirement plan set up already.

Why isn’t United doing this considering we have the least retirements of the big 3?

they are also getting 55 hours per month vs our 50 for SRL and American even has 1/3/6 month options. Can’t remember what my DL buddy said.

this will obviously be impacting everyone in the airline industry for months-years to come. 2 regionals to be shut down by the start of April. The pilot shortage is at a very minimum on hold.

I will also say except for the previous 2 days, the communication from United management and ALPA has been minimal compared to what my buddies at DL and AA get. I realize this is a fluid situation but some news from the top is a lot better than the rumors running rampant to the point they have to actually address rumors in their communications.

and all have had almost daily communication to remain vigilant with regard to safety. Very easy in there difficult times for minds to get sidetracked.

if you’re reading the updates, you saw that UAL managment asked for concessions and the MEC has deferred.
I’m certain the MEC realizes the potential impact of this crisis will have on the corporation and by extension our job security. To read between the lines, it’s possible that the concessions were permanent, not temporary. I dunno, I’m just guessing.

Who says they are not considering it?
Just because they weren't the first to announce something does not mean the union and the company are not being deliberate about how to proceed.

They are parking planes and routes at a furious pace. Might accomplish almost the same thing.

Take a look at the total number os SRLs at 50 hours per month. Staggering.

Kirby is probably trying to get scope relief in exchange.

Of course he is, that’s his job. The union has said that we are not an ATM for the company to come to every time that there’s a problem. I feel better about our current group than those in the past. They have learned from our mistakes. Hopefully they come up with something that can avoid or reduce a furlough if this drags out.

i hope they are holding the line on hourly rates and work rules.

lower block would be a lot more palatable as it will come back naturally.

This thing is changing so fast that at this point I think that both sides are just trying to hold on until it slows down enough to even think about a plan that would actually work.
