yes.

block hours cannot exceed a percentage of mainline block hours. So it’s a real possibility the RJs get parked. Also if any pilot hired prior to 2016 gets furloughed ALL 76 seat RJs must go to 70 seats.

of course all of this has a outside the companies control caveat but there is a time limit on that as well so nothing will happen with RJs soon. Also most of the block hours are looked at on a rolling 12 month scale.......

With the WHO reporting the death rate may be 3.4% from this virus (an increase from previous estimates) and seeing the behavioral reaction in Japan and South Korea (pandemic fiction books becoming reality) it seems very possible our economy is going to get hit very hard.

I am planning on being furloughed this year, I doubt I will be able to retain my job. I also think the previous decade of profits and growth of the airline industry is now over. There will be a new normal in the years to come.

Things are cyclical. It may take months or a couple years but things will return to normal. Airline industry survived 9/11 and 2008. It will survive this. So will you.

Things are cyclical, I agree.

I'm not worried about the virus, but I am concerned about my fellow humans who are going to make this a lot worse than it needs to be. Seems like the globe could use some leadership at this point.

Also, I'll argue the airline industry (or, at least our profession) never went back to pre-9/11 normality. Compensation is still a good 30% below what it was prior to 9/11.

pre 9/11 wages were economically unsustainable especially with the excess capacity flying around.

My last trip a few days before 9/11.....I remember flying from ATL to ORD and the captain and I were discussing the net loss projections for UAL being at or near the billion dollar mark for 2001. Again, this was prior to 9/11. Is that the pre- 9/11 normality you are referring to? An outstanding contract is meaningless with a weak company.
