How have previous furloughs worked at UAL? Is there a large batch let go at once or have they been gradual reductions?

South by Southwest cancelled. Not good for all airlines, not just United.

They said “up to” 50% and considering 380 temporarily. Obviously still not good.

The silver lining- Oil has gone down over 20%. The silver bullet- vaccine, treatment or folks realizing this isn’t all the fear it’s being presented as. Risk- less than flu.

They have about 150 planes parked. Severe schedule disruptions because of travel restrictions, like no flights from Germany to Israel allowed...
Finnair is going to 3 weeks of mandatory leave. Union pilots get 70% pay, non-union pilots get 0.

The flu death rate is 0.1% in the US, and about 2% worldwide. The official coronavirus death rate is now 3.4%, subject to change either way. I read that the actual death rate for a disease cannot be known until the pandemic is over. SARS was officially at 2% early on, and ended around 20%.

Or 11%, if you trust those know-nothings at the WHO.

https://www.who.int/csr/sars/en/WHOconsensus.pdf

A global case-fatality ratio of 11% was recorded at the end of the outbreak

With SARS the total global death toll was 774, according to CDC. You can understand the urgency to contain with the rapid spread of COVID.
