No never had a clue about HDO’s and 6 day blocks despite bidding global reserve off and on for 5 years above the G line.

Hint hint the BAT usually tells you it won’t work awful fast.

Point being is don’t act like you have some secret hack code to not getting days off rolled. All you are doing is limiting the days off you actually want. For many settling for 6 days blocks in order to avoid days off rolled is a paltry compromise even when above the G LIne. Anyone bidding junior WB should consider that. Zero disagreement on your second point. I tell people reaching for WB to be careful cause global reserve is probably the least friendly part of the UPA. That should be fixed soon.

The virus and the Max groundings are going to be a big hit, but things will improve and we will be full speed again. The virus is affecting the heavy flying, especially on the west coast. The max is affecting things as well. We are cancelling flights, slowing our growth, and some 737 training for vacancy awards that would normally be going on now are being delayed until possibly this fall. We are going to slow down for a while until these issues are resolved, but the sky definitely is not falling.

Thanks
Because of 30/168, and the fact that LSR constitutes a work day of that, there is only so much they could extend you at the end of your 6 days of reserve. If you get a trip with a layover greater than 30 during those 6 days, then all bets are off. However if you get the rolling SCs for 5 days in a row (standard ops pre China), they can't fly you to FRA or LHR for example on day 6. I don't particularly care for the short blocks like the 3 or 4 day work block bidders, and when those guys are in the 1 day silo, they obviously have more 30/168 available to crew scheduling than a guy on day 6 of 6. It's not some secret hack i have, but 90% of people i talk to who are thinking of bidding it but haven't, or decided not to, it's because of fear of days off rolled. They seem to have this idea its a guarantee it will happen. I laugh because there are a few other criteria that have to be met before a 1 day silo can even get rolled to begin with. Where does a pilot who's never flown a WB at UA get this fear of their days off always getting rolled.... From that one guy he knows that had it happen to him once or twice and now he preaches it out like coronavirus hysteria. A year on the WB, not once have I been rolled.

There is an element of gamesmanship too... Ie, busy month vs slow month and your bidding strategy. If you plan that 20 yr renew your vows Hawaii trip on an RDO after a 3 or 4 day work block in July because you're off on Saturday.... Not smart.

Got it. Thanks for explaining.

Since neither an LSR or a SC meet the 30 hour rest requirement, whether you have all LSR’s or all SC’s during the 6 days wouldn’t matter right? They’d still be limited to only trips with 30 hour layovers?

Correct. I assume you’re saying if it’s at the end of a 6 day block, then yes.

Another gotcha when you deal with the 30/168 is that first day of reserve. Don’t APU the first short call because if you do that, you won’t have that one minute of duty added in for having to check your schedule. This essentially changes when the lookback period starts when you get to day 6 of reserve. If you dont APU, then at 1800 the day prior to first day of Reserve, that will be he time that interupts the 30 hour break. It comes into play as far as what they can do to you on day 6.

We literally just announce yesterday something like 40% of international flying is about to be cut coming up. Nobody knows what lines are going to look like going forward. I can take a wild guess that it won’t be of anyone’s concern what wide body life is like that doesn’t have at least 5-7 years on property once this thing gets sorted out.
