UAL buys flight school
United Airlines is buying a flight-training academy in an effort to speed up hiring of more than 10,000 pilots by the next decade as about half of its aviators approach the federally mandated retirement age of 65.
The Westwind School of Aeronautics in Phoenix, which United plans to later rename, will produce 300 graduates in its first full year, the airline said Wednesday.

This is going to make a LOT of people pretty unhappy....
Good on them for making these strides. but...why should a CFI starting right now have preferential hiring over UAX carriers with their apps in?
I potentially see Skywest and Republic getting a little worried when CFIs go through to Commutair,Mesa,EXJ or Air Wisconisn

What makes you so sure a CFI would go directly to United? I would think they will probably be part of the Aviate program and therefore have to go fly for one of United's regionals for a time before they go to United. I think its an excellent move.

why would you even go to United Express (expressjet/commutair) if that’s the case

Airhoss knows more, but I believe it might be almost 2 years since a Goodyear CFI/CPP went straight to UAL.

Did I say I'm unhappy with it. Implying that it's going to ruffle some feathers.
(facepalm) Taking things too literally are you? Ugh Alright.. "No one is entitled to a job" Correct.
But Why should someone through aviate as a CFI get through to UAL with a guaranteed spot before someone at a UAX that has X2 the hours with a clean record.
There are thousands of job applications in their pool and UAL does this? What am I missing?
Thats what I'm saying.
