Strangely enough some people like to look in the mirror and be happy with what they see. I called in sick when I was sick. Worked when I was well.

I don’t actually use sick time unless I’m sick…..but I’m actually legitimately sick often enough to keep the bank in the lower range. Our sick accrual sucks. If you’re sick 3 times in one year…..that wipes it all out.

anyone over 63 who is not setting fire to their sick bank is either an idiot or sycophantic marvin of the first order. Yo, scott...the old guys call in sick because you leave them no choice. Kirby is just stroking the press for sympathy. I have to believe that he's smarter than that. Had i not bolted early there is no way i'd leave a dime on the table. You know the old saw from bethune about never stealing a buck from a pilot? Well, for a huge chunk of us that wasn't true....mother u got the upper hand in the grand larceny department. By a factor of ten.
Sick leave. It's yours, not theirs. Use it or lose it.

I always tell my FOs to try to build up a 255 hr SL balance in case something happens to them.
I am currently out on SL due to my doctor changing a prescription a couple of months ago. The FAA requires grounding for the first 90 days on the medication. I had ~320 hrs SL prior to this; I'll return to flying with ~60 hrs. But at least I'll earn 7 hrs/mo until I recoup all of the SL burned on this SL.
I will also likely go on LTD for a few weeks while the FAA med dept reviews my doctor's paperwork. And yes, I've turned it all over to ALPA Aeromedical.
Before this, I would use SL to make sure my balance stayed in the low 300s.
... just posting this as a precautionary tale for anyone who decides to keep their balance near zero for their career.
And yes, I will still have close to zero SL when I retire.

It’s contractually negotiated. Do you think management has trouble looking in the mirror when they use the contract in disingenuous ways that aren’t “in the spirit” of the language? I know the answer to that question. Do you?

meeting for beers and the same conversation they just had for 14 hours then perhaps a "massage".
Only realized how many there are since I got on a wide body.

Vote ALPA wide
How about this novel concept: Vote- across all of ALPA. I've been here for a few years and aside from the Pandemic LOA I haven't seen one solicitation for my input.
I just missed the UAL query for what were our desires regarding a new contract in 2018. Where/when was there a pilot pulse taken on age 67? There should be or am I just confused?

To quote Clayton Williams, if you're getting raped, you might as well relax and enjoy it.'
