Rehire after turning down a class?
#31
Hey everyone,
I was lucky enough to be offered a class with United in 2018. After a lot of tough decision making, I ended up taking an offer with another airline. I notified the pilot hiring manager (S.S.) of my decision to withdraw from my class offer with a very respectful letter, more than two weeks prior to my class date.
Unfortunately that was probably not a good decision, as my current airline is now facing some serious issues. Do I stand a chance at ever getting an interview at United again? I understand if I don’t, I’m just trying to figure out my options for the future. Thanks!

Hey,
I’ve been in your shoes, and perhaps spent more time at the regionals than you did. I also played all the various games involved with hiring these days, such as volunteering outside of work and at work, going to job flairs, shaking hands and networking at every opportunity.
I was extremely fortunate to have the option of deciding between my top two airlines. After hashing it over with close friends and former co-workers at both airlines, I made what I thought was the best decision for my family and I at the time.
There are multiple issues that now exist in my current situation that were not present at the time of my decision. Nothing to do with me personally, but certainly issues that have lead me to wonder if this is what’s best for my family and I for the rest of my career.
Thank you to everyone that responded. I really do appreciate each and every post.

You picked another airline over United.
Your current airline is facing serious issues it didn't have a year ago.
None of these issues have anything to do with you personally.
Assuming the other airline isn't SAA or QFA but based in 'merica there is probably 10K pilots and a few hundred financial analyst who would love to know what went wrong with your airline. You can't leave us hanging......

When I was a new hire CAL guy, we had a guy in our crash pad (a couple classes ahead of me) that was quite an arrogant *********. He left to go to United, ran in to him post merger, he was a reserve FO, I was a line holder 737 CA, he wasn’t happy lol.
