Point being, chasing a seniority dream doesn't always work out. We'll see in 30yrs who made the right choice. This whole thing is a crap shoot and everyone is entitled to pursuing their own path of happiness.

Doesn’t matter. The day they became part of the new United working under our current contract they had those expectations. It only matters what the expectations of each and every United pilot the day prior to any merger being announced.

Just like every former Green Book (Republic) Northwest pilots when they merged with Delta. At that point it didn’t matter they were former Republic. The day before the Delta merger they were Northwest pilots not former Republic pilots. Especially since all NWO - Republic fences were expired at the time of the merger.

Also reference NYA vs Scab Continental in 1986. The Continental Scab pilots made less then NY Air pilots and Continental as a whole was a non union POS airline with pathetic working conditions and wages. Additionally a WB position at CAL then didn’t pay more then a NB. Nothing like the global powerhouse of United today.

5.5 Years commuting to Jetblue. Left at 30% in the right seat of the 320 in BOS. Didnt even entertain upgrading into the 190 after 2 years on it when first hired at JB.

In SFO, Id be better than 30% in the right seat of the 320 after 1.5 years at United. Chose not to commute instead, on RSV at home breaking even on 2 year pay (left just before the CBA).

Spreadsheets are spreadsheets. In the end QOL was what mattered for me when making the switch. Was it a risk? Sure. Is it still a risk? Sure...but I wont know for sure for 25+ years.

Each person has their own reason for staying or leaving. In the end, youre probably just as safe following your heart vs. your wallet.

Best of luck to you!

You waited until you finally got hired to ask these stupid hypothetical questions?

You just got here. Quit your *****ing and enjoy the ride. Either way you're in good shape.

Welcome aboard.

Spreadsheet analysis of an airline career is an exercise in futility. No one can predict the future vagaries of the industry let alone a particular airline, but one can examine QoWL issues and there UAL wins hands down.

To the OP - this rumor comes up almost daily and has been for many, many years.

UA going to buy Jetblue?

You need to get new friends. They're doing you no favors.

This whole UA/JBLU merger is older than a UAL FA that commutes from SEA to her monthly SFO-PVG trip.

The best I recall, this rumor started with JBLU FAs more than a couple of years ago; likely before you were even hired at JBLU. It pops up on occasion; I think it happens every time a JBLU FA says, 'Biggie Smalls' 3 times in front of a mirror.
I was even once asked about it from a UAL FA who lived in the NYC area. Her source? Yes, correct, JBLU FAs.

There is a whole bunch of cognitive self stimulation going on here for something that isn’t even in the works.

At the SFO roadshow Kirby even said that JFK was too expensive to get back into, so they were going to add a couple hundred daily flights into IAD instead. We are already the largest airline in NYC, so not having JFK is not a big deal. That’s the only reason we would buy them. Nobody else would but them because they’d all have to give up JFK slots to do it. We don’t need them anyway.

Until you hear it from a LHR van driver, it’s just hearsay.

Not to get all Sigmund Freud on you, but these people are telling you to stay because it validates their own life decisions if you do, and misery loves company. When they see you leave, and your career skyrocket past theirs, it will shatter their perception of self.

It’s a no brainer move, and you’re lottery-level lucky to have the opportunity. If they are really people you consider friends, do everything you can to help them make the move too.

Congrats!

A good analysis.

One of my closest friends got turned down by United. A month later I went to the interview and was hired. When he found out he treated me like crap and we haven’t communicated in 25 years. I remember Tony Robbins once saying that if you succeed there will be people that are close to you that try and sabotage you because of jealousy. This wouldn’t surprise me at all.
