My guess is at the tine Kirby was brought on, there was discussion, maybe even a promise that he would succeed Oscar within a certain timeframe. Who knows what that timeframe was but the recent woes at AMR and talk of replacing Parker probably gave Scott Kirby some negotiating capital in solidifying the transition process/timeline and thus the announcement. From what I’ve read in the news and heard from Kirby himself, Parker’s decision not to step down after having told Scott that he would retire within two years and recommend him (Kirby) for the CEO position is what led to Kirby being asked to leave. You can’t effectively work with someone you have just decided to screw over and so Parker asked the board to support his asking Kirby to leave knowing they wouldn’t be able to work together effectively going forward. Kind of like Conan O’Brien/Jay Leno if anyone remembers that fiasco. Oscar took the unprecedented opportunity to snatch him up before a non compete clause could be forced upon him and the rest is history. I know AMR pilots view him has the RJ guy and they probably have reason to not like him. For us, he saw our lack of mainline growth and our network and decided to be the “mainline jet guy” and the numbers show and continue to show mainline growth going forward. We now need to feed that growth and thus the ask for more RJs of a seating capacity currently maxed out. How we get there and balance the concerns of our pilot group (and there are justifiably many given our history) against the needs of the airline/network is for us to speculate upon and for our negotiating committee/company labor relations group to hash out. I have plenty of patience and am cautiously optimistic in the interim.

67 percent mainline
33 percent Express ( they can mix as they please but no more than 76 seats and 86,500 max gross)
Or current contract provisions——
My 2 cents

In tonight’s town hall he said that they will have a “significant reduction” in any recovery scenario. He didn’t define what he meant by significant, what model of 50 seater, or what airline would be hit hardest. He left that open for people to speculate and read into the statement what they want to believe.

Don’t fall for any “shared sacrifice” BS from Kirby.
