Take care of both sides, 50% pay for ‘left over’ sick time.

OK but do you want to negotiate for pay and benefits only to have the company say after the fact that: Here is a list of 20 hoops you must jump through to receive that pay and benefit? Not a lot of integrity in that play either if you ask me. Sick time is a negotiated beneifit and I always question the HIPPA implications for a company required doctor's note. For the record, I have never been called about my sick time usage at XJT, CAL, or UAL.

The names attached to quotes seem to be messed up.

Sick leave is a negotiated part of my compensation package. I feel no more guilty using sick time than I do going on vacation or expensing meals or uniform items. The company and I have an agreement. I exchange my labor for negotiated terms of compensation.

Evidently now I’m replying to myself instead of a comment made by some else.

You must be new here. When you've been burned over and over again by the company, integrity does enter into it. You have to realize that you still have some when dealing with UAL. Once that happens, you realize that, yes, sick leave is a negotiated benefit. That's one area they can't futz with.

Yup, the who your replying to seems to be messed up. I replied to JUNEBUG82

do you also consider comprehensive car insurance as a savings plan to get you a new car every 3 years by faking an accident?

sick time is no different. It is for being sick. Nobody has an issue if people take sick time when sick but it is not PTO.

i get it that people burn it at the end of their career but nobody should be surprised if UAL (or any other major) looks for abusers before hiring them.

If I had been burned as many times by my insurance company as I have in the airline industry, I wouldn’t be a very cautious driver. This is just a dollars per day gig now, and I’m going to maximize the dollars and minimize the number of days.
