Goal is to find the best fit to ultimately get the best QOL as fast as possible, for a commuter.

I will second CL's comment. MCI-ORD has multiple directs on us and AA and is only 1.5 or so hours, and once the MAX is started up again it will be raining 737s at UAL and no matter where you are you will see movement. That might take another year or so, but soon enough. The bid that closed 10/22 had seniority number 12892 going to ORD 737. I think thats only a couple hundred numbers from the bottom, and I would fully expect ORD to continue to go increasingly junior in the next couple of months.

I’ll just agree to disagree with you on the commuting thing.

I'm with you Hoss, but hey whatever works for the individual I guess.

The thought that ANYONE can't live anywhere on our salaries is a little belittling.

Sure, as Sunvox mentioned.. it semi sucks the taxes we pay. I'm at 11g's a year! But mind you, I don't have to worry about commuting and yesterday when I got in from HNL, I was home within 45mins from block in! The other FO was just getting on his commute home.

Some of my neighbors make half as much as I do and they still live comfortably.
Sure, they can't pick up a new Bimmer every 3-4 years.. let alone leave it running in the parking lot for a few days! But ANY new hire can live comfortably anywhere within 30 miles of EWR.. for a few years and then branch out to something bigger and better.
My .02 cents
now.. back to your scheduled program~

Motch

Oh, FS, FP & FtC!
11g's a year is a lot of opportunity cost in potential retirement savings. Not to mention all the other taxes, fees, sales tax, tolls, etc. I'd love to live in base, but I'm not going to work harder just to maintain my same quality of life in a tax free state. The 3-4 times I commute a month are saving me hundreds of dollars per trip. Thats a lot of dimp compounded out over a career. I don't look it as the trudge of commuting, but paying myself a little bit more. Allows me to save about 35% of my pay every month.

Whats the story of the car? Tell me you left it idling for a four day trip.

Not exactly. The bottom 5 ORD 737 FOs are all base trades. The true jr pilot is about 1k from the bottom. Sorry, but when I hear anyone say ORD is going jr it gets my antenna up.

I agree with both sides as far as the commuting goes .. live in Florida commute up to Newark with about 7000 other guys ... due to homestead and a few other loop holes I paid 1170 bucks in property tax , paid it just last week. This on top of zero income tax

Everytime I am on a terrible commute gone wrong , I just think of the captains I fly with paying anywhere from 9000,24000 in just property tax !!! Let alone income tax...

I can positive space my commute each week and would still make out better . But I don’t cause I’m too cheap ... now I also admit , I do miss out on some awesome premium opportunities . I do get plenty even so , but with a young one at home I’m not chasing it as much as I once was.

To each their own , but man the tax stuff has gotten out of control in some of these areas .

You probably won’t get it in training. The very next bid that opens though, you are extremely likely to get it. Does that help?

FWIW, the 737 is the junior aircraft in ORD.
The 737 plug in ORD is 13123
The 320 plug is 12892

Not a huge difference but on the last vacancy there were 27 ORD 737 fo awards, and 13 ORD 320 fo awards
