Your not wrong. I can and have voiced my opinion on the matter. At the end of the day I (as you) have to stand behind the larger group decision. I would do the same at United if I was on the other end, even though I don’t fully agree with the proposal. I just think it’s a crappy attitude to threaten people’s careers over something not in our control. Especially those of us who only have 3 stripes! That’s all I was saying.

Call scheduling and use the commuter policy. Tell them that you are down to your backup and won’t make it if the captain says no. Let them positive space you and smile at the captain when you board knowing that he can’t do a thing. I doubt that it comes to that though. Skywest doesn’t really have a union and my guess is that all but a few lifers ignore any directive from their association. I’m positive space on a Republic flight today. I’m not expecting to be treated any differently than I have in the past.

im going to throw out something that i have not seen discussed. the JS priority table shows "approved United personnel" ahead of OO, RAH, and Mesa pilots on own metal flights. if I walk up to a skywest flight as a skywest pilot and the UAL pilot knows someone in the training dept it seems i could get bumped. seems like this is a way for UA to get priority over own metal to me.

Filing a PDR with the Jumpseat Committee with the flight number, date, city pair, and the name of the captain (if available) is the best way to deal with any problem. That way only the guilty party is singled out and not the entire group. These names will get to HR and that person will stand little chance of gaining employment with United. Don’t throw out the whole batch, just trash the bad apples.
I understand sending the Name to the jumpseat Committee so they can figure out the problem but threatening by sending it to HR, I would take that as a threat and also as extortion.
I’m sure TSA and other national security departments would love to hear how someone is using their status a “major airline pilot” to threaten a future job and scare a Captain to gain access to a flight deck.
