Um, if you fly for a UX exclusive carrier, you don’t have nonrev privileges on a OO or YX flight operated for Delta. Also, “pilot commuting” IS a jumpseat listing.

Still, even listing at the gate. Ive always been given a space in the back when there is room. Gate agents arent dumb enough to be that blind.

Probably to find out who is promoting this ridiculous policy against us and who isn’t.

And you still need to check in up front with the CA even if you are given a seat in the back

If the guy flew for Express Jet he has pass privileges only on United. He has stated that he is employed by a United exclusive regional and was trying to get on a Delta flight covered by Skywest. The agent can no more give him a seat in the back than they can a pilot for UPS. Gate agents aren’t dumb enough to simply give seats away. His only option if denied the jumpseat is to purchase a seat or wait for another flight.

As others have stated, I work for a UAX exclusive carrier and Skywest operates the first flight from my local airport to my base. UAL doesn't operate any flights between these two cities, and a 30 minute commute would be a 3 hour commute doing a two leg on UAL. Since I no longer have DAL travel benefits, I have to JS or buy a ZED fare. In this case, I was denied the JS and had to purchase a ZED fare on a wide open flight. If I ask for flowback to the empty back, it's still using the JS privileges and you need to check in with the CA in which he stated management and the COO has told everyone via e-mail today that it's a violation against your certificate to carry us.

United shouldn’t have to take hundreds of seats out of inventory a day to get us to and from work because you guys are getting to call the shots and decides to wage war with commuters? I can think of many routes flown by SKW that could easily have 5-7 United pilots trying to get to work on any given flight and day.

You want to talk about an absolutely warped sense of reality, your suggestion is the definition. All these snarky comments about us being out of touch with reality. HELLO!!! Anybody reading comments like this?
JimLaheyTPS-
I realize my pos space comment is a little off the context of this thread. That being said- yes I think it is a reasonable ask in the context of contract negotiations to try to get positive space commutes. It already exists for envoy. With fewer seats available in the back and competition over the jumpseat- it's a cost just like any other.

As to us waging a "jumpseat war"- it took two side to create this mess. I disagree with UALPA for forcing this change and I think going straight to JS denials was far too strong a response to it. I also feel some UA pilots are too quick to judge and blame YX/OO captains who have been thrust into this.

Lastly-
I never mentioned anything about an "absolutely warped sense of reality". Nor have i made any "snarky comments about us being out of touch with reality". I think you have confused me with another poster.

This will never happen because it would take too many seats out of inventory. Think about it... 13,000+ pilots, about 75-80% of them commute. I would love to see POS to a trip, but it would have a negative impact on our bottom line. We’re not in competition with Salvation Army!!!

Nice for standing up Captain. What happened to the jumpseater? Oh, he’s in first class. He has a Union.

In this case the person who requested the Jumpseat is just being a Jacka$$ itching for a fight by listing for the jump instead of using his non-Rev privileges.
Well he wanted to get in the jumpseat to "educate" the lowlife regional guy.
Exactly why there will not be a UAL in my actual jumpseat. At this point you have become a distraction from me doing my job instead of a possible additional crew member who will help me out if the stuff hits the fan, or I miss a radio call.
