I foresee United doing nothing about this. Very few pilots will be affected. If they don’t have a field standby when you call in to say that you’re down to your backup they will most likely PS you. If they do, you are released from your trip without pay and either pick something else up if you can or go home. The new priority is in place and will most likely stand. Love it, or hate it, the new priority is the official policy now and the computer picks who gets to ask the captain for the jumpseat according to the new pecking order.

Apparently, the jumpseat "war" is already over.
UAL FODMs are giving out positive space tickets to UAL pilots denied on Skywest or Republic, and yes, even if it means buying a pax off the airplane.
This might be one of the best things that's happened to commuting mainline pilots in years.
Meanwhile, UAL is seriously spooling up hiring. By the end of 2020 UAL will have a couple hundred retirements along with impressive mainline airframe growth compared to year end 2019:
2 777 (new)
15 787 (new)
28 737 MAX (new)
30 737 MAX (new, from 2018/2019. Only 14 were ever in service.)
19 737-700s (used, ex-SWA)
15-20 A320s (used)
It's a great time to get hired by UAL, unless, of course, one is trying to make the jump from Skywest or Republic. The lifers could care less, but there's gonna be plenty of disappointed pilots that certainly don't want to be lifers.

Just got denied the JS by a Skywest crew this morning. I'm a UAX pilot, and the flight had a ton of open seats in the back. Had to purchase a ZED fare. He stated thay his management and COO said that they can have certificate action against them if they take us. I asked if he believed that, and he said that he has to drink the koolaid, I mean follow his management.
The FO said this was all stupid and he doesn't understand why I can't ride.

That's a lot of hiring with the growth.

Exactly,
Captain:
“I’m declaring victory, I just denied the jumpseat “
F/O:
Nice for standing up Captain. What happened to the jumpseater? Oh, he’s in first class. He has a Union.

none of those regionals were partly owned by all 3 mainline partners. for the time being, it is in the bottom line’s best interest of all 3 majors that we are successful.
Nowhere did I say that we are indestructible... everyone knows that. I said for now, and probably for the duration of this ridiculous jumpseat war, until our contract with United is up there’s nothing United can really do to whipsaw us as far as our flying for them because they can’t act without approval from the other legacies. A blessing and a curse to be owned by all 3.

Buying a ZED fair doesnt make any sense either, ive listed as pilot commuting on a Delta flight on YX metal with no issues getting a spot in the back.
