Editing to add - recent anecdotal evidence - AA offered an interview to a retiring Fighter Pilot that was non-current...as in...hadn't flown anything in years. They asked if he flew fighters...and then sent the email invite to start the process.

That seems like your final box to check as you have to have it. So either go to a regional, or pay up on your own. An AA wholly owned, if close to you would be ideal. The regional experience can be painful yet extremely beneficial for your transition to the majors. I would definitely do it.
Good luck!

I think you are fine with those hours, but United pulls their applications based on a computer score. Hours/type are part of that formula and weighted accordingly. If you can check other boxes like Squadron Commander, Director of Ops, Safety Officer, NATOPS/SEFE etc then you will likely be competitive. The more boxes checked the better. I would apply and see what happens. The next big boxes to check would be "121 experience".

The UAL computer scoring process is truly an enigma, but it does weight your single seat time against transport time as much as 3 Xs. What is also important to your score is what you did after getting your wings, currency, leadership, and yes other life events.
My personal experience with the current batch of new-hires is they are very (extremely) qualified and current. Most military types seem to be in mid 40s to about 50 years old, Majors to Full Birds and a lot of command experience. Other Military types seem to have filled their obligations and then transitioned to civilian flying where they too have risen to "leadership" positions as instructors and check airmen.
Basically the UAL process seems to put emphasis on being a leader in some sort of aviation roll and just having "hours" won't always make the cut.
Good luck.

If it takes you that long to get ready for a flight, maybe the airlines aren’t for you? 🤣

We definitely don’t need any more patch wearers. I think American or delta would be your best bet.
