I think it’s more of a loophole issue - I.e. could not have held ORD except via “backdoor” EWR bid and luck/timing w/ the trade. Can be annoying for more Sr ORD FOs who would have loved that same spot but on the whole I think it’s better to have base trading than kill it.
I’m calling BS.
1. Any pilot with a proposed base trade request Is at risk of a more senior pilot “taking” the trade in his stead...in order to respect seniority.
2. Every senior pilot HAD the opportunity to take that bid, those in the same category HAD the opportunity to take the base trade.
So how did this not honor seniority?

Company would love for base trades to not count as the junior man.
What we have is valuable to the company and to us.
Because of that EWR- ORD base trade almost every pilot displaced can displace to higher paying Airbus CA. That’s a win.

That’s where I’m a little conflicted. There are almost 30 folks who could be awarded Captain because of the base trade. Being displaced sucks and I’m glad they have the opportunity to do that. However if I’m a senior bus FO in ORD who has been waiting for a vacancy bid it’s gonna be a while...

You could've taken the bid to CA320EWR too, and rolled the dice on a base trade. You didn't, he did. Absolutely nothing prevented you from trying but you want the sure thing. That's your problem.

A base trade is not a vacancy bid, true. But it is a provision in the CBA that is applied in seniority order.
As an aside, I suspect this will be the same pro/con logic to expect if the subject of satellite bases is ever seriously considered.

This is my point exactly, the opportunity was there for all pilots, in seniority order. They chose not to pursue a provision that’s clearly defined in the contract. In fact, the company recently made base trades “electronic” to provide greater transparency into the process.
