But it's not. It pretty much averages to around 5% on both ends. It's not that hard to understand.
I weep over how low standards have fallen in this industry, given this even needs explanation.

I am sure your anecdotal evidence is totally trumping actual data, mostly becuase you want to believe it, but if they were *called first* and there would be any preferential hiring going on at major airlines, the ratio between male and female cockpit crew would be skewed when compared to female demographics across ATP license holders.

It wouldn’t be skewed. There’s *always* going to be more white males. You’re not listening either. If I have a ton of anecdotal examples then a lot of other pilots from a lot of companies do too.

A career choice is a personal and individual choice. A corporation is not a person. It shouldn't be trying to advantage, help, influence, individual private citizens, regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation, etc. It's a publicly traded company.
I would be interested to know which other major airlines do this sort of thing. We have drag queen day.... I see that as a threat to common sense and family values.
UAL shouldn't be pushing pilots to save money so the corporation can go out and spend it frivolously.
My wife works in a male dominated career. She has no issues interacting with males or females. It was her choice to pursue it and she did it on her own. No corporations helped her or advised her, or anything. She just did it.
There is no threat, real or perceived in females advancing their careers. My issue is with the corporation playing in a game they shouldn't be messing around in. Let people determine their own path, and by their own hard work and merits succeed.
I know too many people who were pushed into something and then didn't like it. Wasted allot of time, which you can't get back and spent allot of their money, and their families' money too.

A threat to what?

The whole point of these events is to encourage participation by underrepresented minorities and show that it is possible for women to do these jobs. Study after study has shown that diversity in the workplace is good for a business. It is in your airline's best interest to reach out to these groups to get them to participate. Just like it is in Google's best interest to reach out to high schools to encourage females and minorities to start learning to code.
As far as drag queen day? How on Earth does that hurt your family? I'm sure you could find a safe space somewhere until it's over.

I don't know if you are truly incapable or just refusing to understand that simple point.
No one implied what you said in the quote.
Ratio would be skewed when referencing the pool of female ATP license holders, not "male to female" that no one brought up.
Slightly over 5% ATPs are female. Around 5% of pilots hired at majors are female. Thus, your thesis is refuted.

Can no one on these boards spell "a lot" correctly?!

Career choices are personal choices. My daughter has the world in front of her. She will likely kick butt in whatever she chooses. She doesn't need to be pushed in any one direction by anyone. I see women doing great things everywhere they go. I haven't seen any recent statistics, but I would bet dollars to donuts women now dominate college and are likely dominating in high school. I recall the last 3 valedictorians from our childrens high school were female.
Females don't need any help. Just stay out of their way. They seem to be doing just find on their own. My daughter in particular is so independent she doesn't like to get advice or counsel from folks. She wants to do it on her own. I guess the male singer who sung "I did it my way" rings true to her.
The last I checked we don't sponsor "Cajun pilots day, or Latino Pilots Day" Probably time to knock off the OBAP stuff, women in aviation stuff, etc. Time to just free our selves from all the BS and start competing for pilots. The internet provides enough information to prospective candidates as well as on possible career paths. Guidance counselors, etc. all are there to support young people as they pursue their careers and education as well as discover their passions and aptitudes.
I am also not a fan of these "zero time" programs that UAL is pushing. You want it, go out and earn it and compete on your own merits.
Every time I hear "turn off the APU" I will think twice about it. Not going to fund this crap. Seriously, a crew, a wide body plane, and 100 employees all on company paid business. What a boondoggle.

Drag Queen day is an embarrassment to anyone and everyone that cares about their corporate image. I would not take my children to such an event, nor would my wife, or daughter go there. We find this sort of thing disgusting. I would think our corporate leadership to be wiser and more prudent than that. very poor choice. It's one thing to go to Key West on Halloween and see this, it's another thing entirely to have your corporation sponsor this and promote it.

Nice first post!!!!
You wake up early this morning, and create an alternate account just for that?
I doubt it. All the legacies tout themselves as the most attractive.
Well, it's a UAL post in a UAL section, and I'm not so sure your grasp of statistics is that good.
Make to sign in with this account when you flame me and not the other one you usually use...
And as mentioned, it's ALREADY been proven that it's possible. Move on...

And you to lighten up on being forced. United isn't going to these events and telling girls " be pilots or else!!!" Just like job fairs, career days, junior achievement or military recruiters, it is presenting careers as an option. Corporations partner with underrepresented minority organizations all the time to provide exposure. Unless you have a pilot in your family, you probably have no idea what a career in aviation is like. Uninformed guidance counselors are no help. Take a deep breath. No one is trying to force your daughter at gunpoint to become a United pilot. E
