In fairness, your argument is flawed. You had Katz. He always proposes moonbeam SLI’s and always gets smoked. He wanted one for one then staple. If that logic became ALPA merger policy and we had merged with Alaska, their newest hire would be an instant widebody Captain at the time.

I was a Captain through the entire lost decade, on the 757/767 fleet until they replaced all the LUAL 757’s with LUAL 737-900ER’s which we conveniently didn’t have a training department for and conveniently could fly. I lost about 3 years of seniority. I’ve never complained once. You know why?? BECAUSE IT DOESN'T DO ANY GOOD. Who cares????? Let’s move on and get a damned good next contract that we can all enjoy and be proud of.

Those of us who rode UAL down the toilet on the backs of the thieves and rapists who ran the joint from 2000 on are well aware of what they did to a once proud airline. You should probably wake up and accept the same about Smizek and his Merry Men. Atrocious. Should be in jail.
The smarter CEO was Kellner, while he was no angle he was light years better then Smizek. We lost a lot of good MGT when Kellner quit and Jeff took over. The smart ones saw the writing on the wall...

I agree that we are both better off then either would have been alone.

You are so wrong and I have no fight on this whatsoever

CAL could not merge with anyone till NWA was out of the picture
NWA had the first right of refusal and had to approve anything CAL wanted to do.
Poison pill read about it.
NWA merged with Delta at 2008 and the door was open for CAL to find a partner

Yours is as well. If I remember correctly Katz's resume included an impressive win for the Jet America Boys and Girls against Alaska so he's got that going for him.

CAL's merger Committee was under no ones control other than Jay Pierce and Jim Brucia. The MEC was completely in the dark during the entire process with no input whatsoever. The UAL merger Committee took their marching orders directly from the MEC and they were kept in the loop from day one. Guess who's strategy paid off?

And this argument goes on and on and ....

Isn't it great you all can place blame and vitriol words and yet have no real idea what went on behind the curtain!

The merger of UAL and CAL happened and there's nothing you all can do to change that. Move on!!!

The first deal between CAL and UAL was shot down by Larry Kellner LCAL CEO after the NWA pill was relinquished.

First of all, CALs proposal was a joke. One for one? Cmon. That was their entire proposal. If CAL really didn’t want furloughed pilots placed ahead of active pilots, they should not have proposed that CAL furloughed pilots be placed ahead of active UAL pilots.

Asking for 50% weighting for longevity vs the 35% heavily favored CAL pilots, who’s relative seniority was better because of the large narrowbody fleet they had. That 15% shortfall, plus the unreasonable 787 fence on the west coast, was a huge win for CAL pilots. There are virtually no LCAL pilots with LUAL pilots senior and younger than them, but on the UAL side there are over 1,500 of them. Guys who were going to retire 400-500 now don’t break 2,000. UAL got 0 credit for its much higher retirement rate over the next 15 years, which is why the 50% was asked for longevity.

If you are a LUAL hired after 1997, your career was basically destroyed in the merger, just because of that 15% seniority differential. It was HUGE. Look at the LUAL seniority proposal. The people who made out in the merger were senior LUAL and junior LCAL.

No question about it.

The “unreasonable 787 fence”

Remind us again how that came about. *Cough cough* 570...
