Cal did replace the DC10’s and 747’s. That was the purpose of the 777 orders. While I miss flying them, I’m sure glad they were replaced, or we wouldn’t be having this pointless trivia session now.
Prior to 2010, I can’t think of a single major airline that paid a dividend, with the exemption maybe of SWA.
There is an old saying; “Airlines show a profit when they run out of places to hide profits.” It was about taxes, which is why pre-83 CAL had such a grossly over funded pension....that got the attention of Frank Lorenzo who used that funding to buy Continental. (ironic). He then took advantage of the Bankruptcy laws to to terminate pension payments, and continue to operate the airline.
