It could lead to awkward questions when they review your times.

Its never too early to start practice interviewing. Emerald Coast or similar services can get you thinking about your experiences and how to apply them to the interview. If you work at XO you probably have plenty to draw from relating to customer service and dealing with people, etc.

Best of luck...plan a vacation or some place you need to be. Thats usually when thye call for an interview.
Yes it's all checked on my airlineapps just forgot to include it when I listed it above. I know exactly what you mean. Lot of people I know did the same thing but I did not begin logging any PIC until I officially upgraded. If it doesnt say Captain so-and-so I dont log it, even on Captain/Captain pairings.

Thanks for the encouragement, I'll keep knocking on the door and take the advice to begin preparation with one of the service.

Cheers!

Thank you, this is what I was looking for.

Every app is scored based on the secret formula that UA has. When they want to interview 20 applicants, the computer spits out the next 20 names!

Historically they had separate piles, but I don't think they have those now, or at least they aren't under any court order to do so. But even if they do have separate piles, I guarantee one of them is not "who applied the longest ago."

Apply and then update as frequently as you can. Nobody knows what specifically goes into the secret formula, but more flying, more aircraft types, more PIC, a 4 year degree, more instructor/management positions, recommendations, more this, more that, and more of the other thing will all get you more points.

How many for each thing I don't know, but keep flying and keep updating and then someday (hopefully sooner rather than later) UA will let you know when the secret formula has spit out your name.

23 months for me, but 4 months after a Centerline App review, and 2 months after adding Masters Degree.

Are you saying HR doesn't have the discretion to pull and review a dusty, or fresh, application manually? Some recent UA new hires implied otherwise after successfully shaking the bushes.

A few years ago the computer would skip over any app that wasn't updated within the last 6 months or had an expired passport/medical. Maybe they changed that but I doubt it. Whoever has access to airline apps at United could theoretically take a look at any app. The chiefs used to do that during meet and greets at CAL. If the computer can't select you because of expired whatever it is going to severely decrease your odds. If you have the pull to get your name in front of the right people I am sure they can expedite the process outside of airlineapps but that person probably had an updated app.

As for the length of having your app in I don't think it matters. They do like to see letters of recommendation and they never expire. It looks good to have some older recs that shows them that you have wanted to work there for awhile.

Thanks in advance.

I know some squadron buddies picked up after only having their app in for a month, others like myself had ours in for 10+ months at that point or longer. So clearly time in system is not necessarily worth much beyond ability to be invited to fairs as they come etc. Any one betting on that quick of a turn however is kidding themselves, luck has a big part to play in this system is my guess.

It was a pure "informational session." They took questions, but the answers were very generic in nature. The good news is UAL will continue to hire for the unforeseeable future, even through the summer.

I hope it helps and good luck to us all!
