Nothing turns my stomach more than to admit you were right, but it appears such is the case. I emailed our Chairman and got a response that mirrored his recent letter in which he states:

Although both sides have been working toward reaching a TA early, we will not have an acceptable deal by the January 31 amendable date. . . .

. . . Although we cannot publicly share the day to day back and forth of negotiations, we can say that following initial proposals from each side regarding scope, there have been no additional negotiations on this section.
I must say I am thoroughly disappointed with the Twitter photo, and this puts the leadership in a bad light in my view. Obviously their intent was simply to increase engagement of the group, but I find the humor to be in poor taste as I think the expectations for many of us, obviously wrong at this point, was for an early and equitable agreement. Now it appears to be business as usual. No, I'm not surprised . . . just disappointed. I guess that's what I get for being a "glass half full" guy.

Sad, but I fear if the company drags this out over Scope, the Kum-By-Yah sentiment I and many others have been feeling will be quickly lost.

As an aside to FlyToLive -just wondering why you hide behind anonymity here. Maybe it's more evidence of my "cluelessness", but all indications seem to point to you as being this guy,

. . . and if that IS you then you sure seem to enjoy the limelight when you get the chance . . . then again I could be wrong, and it wouldn't be the first time.

When do you get to say "I told you so" to the folks who said "no contract for years"?

You don't post in public on Twitter as a joke or a corporate jab. This is a clear signal to the troops of positive news forthcoming. The contract negotiations are complete. There is simply no debate. The only remaining questions are what are the details and will the TA pass?

This is a clear signal that pilots are gullible as hell. The contract negotiations are hung up where they are usually hung up. There is simply more waiting.

Uncle . . . uncle. I know . . . not my finer moment of analysis.

In my defense, I had some serious brain power at home looking at the photo as well, most of whom are executives in corporate America, and they couldn't comprehend a Twitter photo like that without an imminent announcement.

That is a horribly dubious defense, Joe. At least to this blue collar worker. Corp types step into their boxers just as we do and have a wonderful record of million-dollar Eff-ups. Wasn't El Heffee a corp type? The guy who ran Enron? Lehman Brothers? Besides, guys with 3 piece suits and 1000 dollar briefcases have stolen and withheld from me for my entire 32 years in aviation. How many experts does one have to see fall on their face (and or lie) before one starts to entertain a healthy level of skepticism?

The card was not a very good idea in my opinion. It would have been had the results been in, but then read the latest message from the union. They're not. Just look at how spun up the troops got over it. And look at the idiotic thread on the other forum. When guys get anxious, guys get stupid.

We're (sort of) in the driver's seat, but feces has yet to hit the fan. Hopefully this time SCOPE isn't for sale. I'd be amazed if we got a contract in the next 6 months to a year. Happy, but amazed none the less as it goes against everything I have ever experienced since I started at my first ALPA carrier.

I’m taking it to mean, the message has been conveyed that scope will not be sold. We won’t claw back any, but the company isn’t getting any. Status quo. In the meantime the current scope language allows them to add large RJ’s.

Once again rolling out the C suite pals of your wife to parrot their opinion you so value. How do they feel we should approach scope?

Yes it was odd, but I'm waiting to waste brain cells reading a TA vs worrying about the meaning of an MEC Christmas picture. What's important is the contract and the improvements many of us have been waiting 16 flippin' years for. Shared sacrifice my....!
