Why do UA FOs get physicals twice a year?
I was talking to a friend who flies for UA and he was telling me how six months comes so quickly and he was off to get his 6-month flight physical.
He's a 73 FO over the age of 40. I'm at Delta, over 40 and on the A320. At Delta, unless you're in a category with augmented crews (777, 350, 7ER, 330, 764) then you're only required to get a physical once a year. Yes, the Class I expires after 6 months, but the Class II is still good for the rest of the one year period. The only plain text explanation I found on the internet was here. Granted, it's for APA, but it would seem to apply to all of us.
So why does UA require its FOs on non-augmented crews to get a physical every six months?

IIRC, it's not a crew-augmentation issue, it's an ETOPS rule. In other words, flying an ETOPS flight non-augmented still requires both pilots to have a FC medical. The only fleet at UAL that doesn't do ETOPS is the Bus. I suppose they just made it a blanket rule for simplicity's sake. I believe DAL and AA split their fleets between international and domestic; UAL doesn't do this. You're just on the 757/767, we don't split things up.

Does this help?
If exercising type privilege, do you need a FC?
