Why not just “home basing?”

So they can DH half the pilot group twice a week?

Many of us had to suffer under the outstation basing model. Productivity and seniority get diluted. Deadheads skyrocket. I'll take hub basing.

The Dr Dao incident started when Republic added 4 deadheads going to an outstation at the last minute.

Another way of looking at this model is that regionals give the majors more flexibility within smaller markets. That might be something to consider.

I (now) get that satellite basing might not give all union members the benefits of paid moves and other perks of opening a full base. That wasn't something I had thought of before.

No easy answers.

One suffers from outstation basing when one is forced to move there. One benefits from it when one already lives there. I had it both ways at different times.

Likewise, I saw my seniority both enhanced and diminished as flying was moved from domicile to domicile.

A major difference between then and now is that a whole lot of very senior pilots already live in the "outstations" that are being discussed. I would argue that opening a 737 BOS or MCO satellite domicile, even without paid moves, would result in a mass exodus off WB aircraft, enhancing the seniority of everyone.

The DH argument is spurious. Half the pilot group has to DH every week as it is. They're just not compensated for it or rested after it. Plus, right now they're jamming up every open seat to every place you'd ever like use your pass benefits to visit.

I don’t think opening a guppy base in bos or mco would get more than a couple wb guys to switch. Look at den, half the sfo wb guys commute from den and they could all hold den guppy or bus. These guys are so enamored with wb paychecks they will never bid off.

Sorry No!.....the DR Dao incident started when that unstable felon refused to comply with directions. Why he is not in prison on federal charges is the mystery to me.

Only if there's a dedicated pilot to operate it while I get my needed rest.

RE: Regional outstation basing.

They do that because the regionals traditionally had to layover two crews or do a “standup” to cover the last flight into a small market and the first flight out, plus they have MX at cheap places like FAT, MFE ETC and need someone to swing the gear at 2 AM. Now that we do some flying in that realm I’d wager we see outstation basing before a “satellite” base.
