United owns 42 of the 60 E175’s at Mesa where I fly. Probably you could reconfigure to 6 first class seats and make them 80-82 seaters. Do you really need 12 first class seats? These were certified well below mfr spec gross weight due to scope.

Probably with a United Crew you get better utilization vs the regionals crews that are turning over pilots and can’t staff. The 175 is a joy to fly as well. Easier to load and turn then 120-150 seaters. Rarely do we even load the aft cargo bay. Seems like some extra seats and luggage fees make them a profit machine.

Okay

Scope isn’t going to be relaxed in my opinion. And, the details of how we proceed going forward is TBD.

Had a PI on a trip a few weeks back that said the FTC renovation was finally getting close to completion.

Said we weren’t getting any 737 Max sims.

Also said they’re breaking ground on the new building.

The company has gotten rid of the old sims we had like the 747-200 we kept for contract work.

Yes, we have the 350 on order but even with the numbers ordered it is still a relatively small fleet.

So, what will fill the new sim building now starting construction?

It won’t be huge but doubt it will be all A350 sim bays......

Just an observation.

Excellent observation. With the 737 fleet continuing to grow, I have to wonder whether or not the current number of 737NG sims will be sufficient to support all training though. So, I wouldn't be surprised if we do get a couple of MAX sims at some point. I'd think new hires would benefit from it at least. But, the extra space could certainly be used for NSNB sims.

I posted a few pages ago some musing about how we might buy 195E2s as NSNB aircraft because it would firstly unlock more 70 seaters at UAX and later on there would be benefits of commonality with 175E2s which might ultimately find their way to mainline (since 175E2s are too heavy for UAX). Looks to me like the 175-195E2s are a common type rating with the E1s.... which would result in reduced training costs for new hires coming from the regionals. JetBlue said the decision to buy A220s was very close, but went Airbus' way due to the existing relationship. I think what I pointed out above would probably be enough to tip a NSNB to Embraer. Like I said previously, if we see 175 pay rates published in a TA then perhaps I will have been on to something.

This is the most logical outcome. Wish we’d get the 220 as it is a much better product but that is me the pilot talking. The Embraer product makes more sense for UA if the CASM is similar to the Airbus, which I think it is. We just have to get the pay rates up for the Embraers because I think we are heading that direction.

I'll raise you one but not in a positive way...
I too believe we will order the E195-E2. Opens up the NSNB clause the will allow the company to utilize those new E175's as true 76 seaters.
But where I differ is where the E175-E2's land.
Hate to write this but willing to bet that we end up shifting the weight limit to 89K thereby allowing our regionals (ie..Republic and their latest E175 order) to switch the E1's to E2's.
Keep in mind, it's the NMB that is the real enemy.. and they will just compare what our management wants to what the other Legacy's are doing.

Unless our management team wants us to fly smaller aircraft (and it's obvious they don't), this contract may end up going to the NMB.

Still surprised that management hasn't ordered the E195-E2's as our payrates for those aircraft are soooooooooo **** poor. Got to wonder what they have up their sleeves.

Then again, maybe they fear a training nightmare along with some serious crew issues by having 2-5 year Captains and newhire FO's... imaging a newhire going to training twice within 2 years due to wanting a higher paying aircraft (A320/B737)

Either way, they have a way to get more 70/76 seaters... 1-C-1.
That is also the way to utilize those 25 aircraft THEY bought but can only operate at 70 seaters vs the 76 seater they really are!

Oh well

All that is meaningless if you can't land and park the plane....

Damn straight. What good is $500/hr if I vote to outsource my own job? What’s so hard about this?

To answer your last question, I’ve yet to find anyone (small sample group admittedly) that won’t be royally PO’d if scope even shows up in any potential TA.

Airlines will use their slots in whatever way produces the most profit. A 737 will not necessarily produce more profits, even if it has lower casm.
