Sounds like discrimination based on veteran status to me. What if United said the event was for "[protected class] and those with a [purpose] flying background." How is it okay to have a military-only event when veteran status is a protected class? Would it be okay to have a female-only or a gay-only event? Put it on the resume. Prepare to prove it?

Stay where you are! You'll be an MCO 777 captain after the merger.

Coming in late to the thread. Glad I found it. I had no idea United was doing this and got the invite all the sudden one morning. I thought that it was a prank at first. Anyways, got my slot for the Civilian day.
I immediately hired Cage Consulting. They came highly recommended. This opportunity is totally worth the prep work.
5100 TT
3300 PIC
2600 Turbine
4 yr degree + almost done with Master
121 FO
121 Instructor
no LCA, CP, or management experience.
VERY LUCKY
Has United ever done something like this? Would this lead to the HOGAN and then later to Interview? Thanks for any info!!

I was selected for the Veterans job fair back in 2016. I fully believe the interaction with BK during that time got me the hogan invite...and yes, I was prior enlisted.

I'm going... Similar stats to you especially as it relates to instructor... Half the PIC... More TT and turbine and I am a CA within the last year. But based on some of the other civilian invites that have posted here a tier one candidate has about that with some other tangibles. I have approx four recs which gets you the max points in that area. I spent $$ on Cage two months ago to make sure my qualifications were presented properly and I think it made a difference as I had no idea this job fair was coming ... Also achieved 1000 TPIC recently.

Be very careful taking advice from people that haven't interviewed in the last decade. They mean well and these HR/pilot recruiters really are friendly and welcoming but this isn't the same process that it was way back when. They are asking questions that they want you to answer in a certain way so that they can check the box and say "wow he obviously wants to be here because he not only answered it correctly but he took the time to learn our goofy system." It is 100% a game and you either play it or you don't.
You need to do prep to be on the same level as your competition. It is a small price to pay for the added confidence and knowing that you aren't making the recruiters ears bleed with your chuck yeager story about flying around a thunderstorm. It is insane not to do it. Emerald Coast does webinars where you get to watch other people and it will open your eyes to how much you suck. The recruiters will do a mini interview during these events. Tell us about yourself (2-4 min on you), a few TMAAT, and finally "why united"... it is the same thing that you will get during the real interview with the same people across the table. Answer the TMAAT in the STAR format and it helped me to always end each one with what you or your company took away from the event to check the box on the R. All these companies will get you there. Cage is thrown around a lot too. They will give you slightly conflicting gouge on how to answer certain things but if you get to that point you are well prepared and can probably not sweat the minutia. Dress to impress and don't ask questions answered with a simple google search. This job is worth the effort.
