Allowing out of base pickup several days in advance would have serious consequences to trip treading, SRM, Overtime, and PPU. The in base pilots need access to those trips until the last minute.
The only segment of the pilot group it would help would be the commuters.

I've had a few shots at out of base PPU trips as well on the 756. Most of those trips pop up late in the evening for the following morning or mid day for later that night. So I don't fully agree with your perspective that out of base pick up an extra day or so early would be as detrimental as you make it sound. Of course, more time for out of base pick up would mean more options for local reserves to tag trips earlier to prevent an out of base grabbing it.

I had that happen last week. A sick call for the 1230 NRT flight hit open time at 0730. They had no short calls for the morning. By 0740, they had slapped 50% PP on it. I’m not sure how long they would of waited before they started SRM. I grabbed it while I had the chance. Easiest 40 hour of pay 3 day I’ve ever seen.

Right! I love when I see a trip go 50 and sit for 30 minutes, then 75 and sit until it finally goes 100. Next thing you know it’s gone within 2 minutes. Stop picking up 50% and you’ll get a shot at 100% before they senior man.

It could be that the guy didn’t have the seniority to ever get a 100% trip and was doing the best that he could. Lots of people pick up advertised trips early to fit their schedule because once they hit premium pay only the super senior will stand a chance. Also by the time trips hit 100%, many commuters couldn’t get there in time to cover it. To each their own.

Put me in the “won’t work on my day off for less than 100%” category.
I appreciate the 50% guys, once they’ve cleaned out everything that follows is sure to hit 100.
