Do they "need" you in EWR for the summer? Then, yes.
Is it possible the planning people aren't really paying attention and your lateral transfer could be completely arbitrary? Most certainly.

There are such a thing as seat locks, but that’s if you bid sideways... i.e. bus to guppy. In this instance you’ll incur a 24month bid freeze. You can go to another base, or captain seat in current equipment and no where else.
If you bid up a category, you can always bid up or base trade, but not back down for 24 months. i.e. bus/737 to 757 fo can bid up anytime, but can’t go back down to 737/bus for 24 months.
If you’re a new hire, and 757 is available out of indoc... you will not have the option to bid down for 24 months. If you get 737/bus however in indoc, you can bid up anytime.
New hires, once you hit the line it’s imperative you read and understand the contract. It’s long, and reads like stereo instructions, but dictates your entire life. It’s in your own self interest you take the time to read and understand it.

Line pilots are the first line in upholding our contract. The PDR system and union volunteers are the backstop to preventing abuses by the company.

As someone who is deciding between 777FO, 787FO or 320CA I kind of wish all three were open at the same time to see how the chips may fall instead of potentially getting seat locked instead of heading to the 787.
Sounds like the 787 is going to be a Europe plane. That sounds good. Deep South stuff can suck it.

EWR. I'd be more senior as a 320CA than a 777FO. That should probably answer my question about what the better gig is...
