or, another perspective: this is the first bid in which LUAL pilots hired in 2000 have been able to bid left seat.

I just checked CCS and this ^^^ is not accurate. Vacancy bids back in 2016 both on the Airbus and 737 in SFO there were LUAL 2000 hires getting Captain bids. They have been in those seats for 2 years now.

Accurate for me, but thanks for the correction...should have instead stated "LUAL pilots hired in late-2000"

There would be zero pilots in any left seat at United right now that were hired in 2000 or later from either legacy if every pilot from the top of the seniority list bid the highest seat they could hold. The only reason there are pilots holding left seats junior to that is because others have decided not to.

If given the choice of being a 787 line holder or a junior NB Cap on reserve (or even a junior line holder) I know which one I’m taking.
Some need that fourth stripe for whatever reason. I’m more interested in being home as much as possible for as much money as possible.
Someone told me once that for just about every major airline, the junior captain always seems to hover right around 70%, which seems accurate from. You could write a PHD dissertation on human behavior trying to study and quantify the bidding habits of any any given pilot group.

And new hires would be going to the 787/777.

I definitely hear ya. I'm in that same boat, but about 55% overall company. I am switching from WBFO to NBCA because I just want a break from the time changes and whatnot. I doubt I'll make much more money if any, to be honest.
If I can't stand the heat of actually having to work for a living I'll have my bid in back to WBFO the second my freeze is over. Being a captain for the sake of being the MIC isn't really my thing. Some need that fourth stripe. For me it's just a means to an end.

If your going from the 777 to the 737 your pay is going up by $40 an hour, that’s 3-4,000 more a month, over $30k pay raise, good chunk of change.....
