For the Greater Good
My concern with the current administration policies centers around setting off inflation and my approaching retirement ... Inflation like we had in the seventies. I can't adequately describe it ... You have to live it to fully understand. I do believe you may get the chance. I hope I am wrong. However, if it does happen many of you have 10 to 20 years or more to regain your ground.
This business like any other is cyclical and you never know what will be the next event that starts the downturn.
Kathryn's Report: Airlines, Not Boeing, Will Feel China Tariff Threat First: Boeing may seem like the target of China?s tariff ire. But it is those who use the Boeing planes?airlines?that are the most immediately vulnerable

Chinese airlines have trashed yields to the mainland through huge capacity increases. The company has already announced capacity cuts to China the past couple of months.
We may see a few more cuts like Chengdu if this turns into a trade war, but nothing to worry about ......yet.

I wouldn't waste an scintilla of worry over something that is totally beyond my / our control.
If you're spiritual, take comfort in the belief that God does have a path planned for everyone; maybe not the path that you charted, but one that he did.
If you're not spiritual, then take comfort in the adage: If you worry about something terrible coming to pass in the future, if it does indeed come to pass then you will have suffered through it many times over, day after day.
Either way, don't worry about the things you can't control.

AFAIK, the last United cuts to China service were Xi'an and Hangzhou, announced quite a while ago. It's my understanding that United was subsidized on those routes and they were no longer viable when the subsidies ended.
At the same time, I think we've added flights into Shanghai due to high demand there.

I'm pretty sure you're incorrect on United announcing China capacity cuts in the last couple of months.

Between Chinese airlines and Emirates, the rest of the world's long haul flights have been screwed for 5-10 years. The Chinese most recently. Emirates was selling tickets from HKG and anywhere else in China to anywhere in Europe for about 400 dollars a few years ago. Singapore Airlines, Quantas, Malaysian, all the Indian carriers have been screwed for a long time, and it is not going to get any better anytime soon.
BTW I have heard Emirates has lots of parked airplanes because of lack of passengers, and pilots. LOTS of parked airplanes. Maybe there is hope on that front at least.

If any of it comes to fruition, it will be entertaining to hear how 'the base' will spin things ... 'For the greater good?'.
We'll see.
