It is called color of authority and US CFR 46504 dealing with interference with a crew member. That and having read multiple public statements by passengers that witnessed it, plus 7 years dealing with situations just like this as a FA.

If a passenger fails to follow the instructions of a flight attendant in the back, the result can be removal up to and including prosecution for interference with a crew member, depending on how the whole thing goes down.

There's a common sense limit. If the FA had ordered the passenger to put an infant in the overhead ...

If a cop ordered you to put your dog in the trunk because he felt it was distracting your driving would you do it?

49 U.S. Code § 46504 - Interference with flight crew members and attendants

An individual on an aircraft in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States who, by assaulting or intimidating a flight crew member or flight attendant of the aircraft, interferes with the performance of the duties of the member or attendant or lessens the ability of the member or attendant to perform those duties, or attempts or conspires to do such an act, shall be fined under title 18, imprisoned for not more than 20 years, or both. However, if a dangerous weapon is used in assaulting or intimidating the member or attendant, the individual shall be imprisoned for any term of years or for life.

The FA was the figure here with color of authority, and once she forced he passenger to comply with her instructions, the passenger is off the hook.
More info than that.
The women doesn’t speak English, her daughter was translating, the FA either didn’t hear or didn’t understand what was being said. The per carrier does not look like a carrier, but rather a regular duffel bag. Zoom in on the photo and tell me honestly that it looks like a carrier-it doesn’t.
There was no intent here, and to imply or even outright say that the FA did this intentionally is outright slanderous.

According to witness statements, every passenger around the FA heard the passenger tell her there was a dog in the carrier. You're telling me the FA standing over her didn't hear or understand it, but a passenger sitting behind her or across the aisle did? Plus, having handled those carriers myself, it is blatantly obvious what they are and you can see and feel the pets inside them. And you can clearly see the floor through the mesh sides from the pictures.

The FAs best defense here is she was either deaf or not paying attention to what she was doing which appears to be the road they are trying to go. Its not going to wash in the end. I'm not saying she was trying to hurt the dog. I'm saying she was ignorant and negligent in her duties.

Me no because I'm an @sshole who asks questions. But having dealt with thousands of passengers I can say there are meek individuals that when someone in authority tells them to do something, they do it. At that point the liability is on the person in authority, not the person who follows the instructions given.

Did I miss the info on who physically put the bag in the OHB? Also, why wouldn't a regulation pet carrier fit under the seat? Lots of dots that need to be connected.

I also find it fascinating that those throwing the FA under the bus may be the same ones defending the presumed innocence of the pig Alaska captain.

Absolutely. Because I don't want to get shot. I don't argue with cops, I'll argue later in court. Doesn't work out well for people who look like me...
