Section 6 Opening Letters

I don't think TK is that easy of a target.
I am not an instructor, nor do I aspire to be, but I must say, I enjoy the experience there, and I feel it adds much value and safety to our product and the profession. I think our pilots would fight for TK and the instructor cadre. I will.
Another thing, by outsourcing instruction to retired pilots please keep in mind that these are not likely to be dues paying members in good-standing. I don't think it has much traction at ALPA. ALPA will want it's dues money.

Having been through IAH TK w/ retired guys who hadn’t touched the airplane in 10+ years, and DEN TK... I would vehemently agree.

LOL! But you need to edit your post to add a comment about all of the posters who pop up with that silly reprieve, 'don't negotiate in public.' No one's negotiating on these forums; people are discussing topics. And if history's proven anything, it's that the posters on these forums are at least two standard deviations outside the mean. Example: on the contract extension, if one were to go by the polling results here, the extension would have gone down in flames instead of passing with ~80% yes votes.

So would I, especially since most of those guys were Abbott’s boys. Hard to envision spots open to retired pilots that would NOT become a favoritism system, just like the L-CAL training department and, my personal favorite, the “flight test” group- ESPECIALLY when those guys kept their “positions” while we furloughed legitimate pilot positions after 9-11. Nothing good is going to come of this.

Yes, they are legitimate pilots, most with formal flight test school experience, and multiple higher degrees. They have to live in the bay area, and can't commute to a flight test job. Cost of living....

You may be misinformed. The flight test group may fly under our contract, but they do not have seniority positions, and are not allowed to fly in revenue service, or even a generic ferry. They are a totally separate group. If UAL is furloughing, it may or may not affect the flight test group.

And yes all of our current test guys are TPS graduates.

How much are we paying PI's at TK?
Aren't some guys making $230,000 or more?
What is the "industry standard" pay for a simulator instructor?
I like the current guys, but I can see why the company might get frustrated paying WAY over market value.
