I guess? I get how it all goes together, but I couldn’t figure out how you got to that being an argument I was making.

It make sense UAL doesn’t want to hire regional pilots. UAL/Kirby has made it pretty obvious that they are looking for scope relief in the next contract. If they can fill the pilot ranks with enough junior people that don’t understand the importance of scope and dangle enough money in front of the senior people then they will get the 51% they need.
It’s the same reason they look for volunteer work on the resume.
Management loves people that are willing to work for free on their days off.

I don’t care how UA wants to spin the CFI program. It’s absolutely absurd to hire this way while we still have “10,000 apps on file”. How embarrassing for us and to our well qualified friends that have paid their dues but will now have to take it on the chin yet again and let CFI’s get the seniority number.
Two different people reported that AA has 3,000 apps on file that meet the mins, down from 17,000 in 2007.

Being a member of those target demographic adds to your application... I have a buddy who works pilot recruitment at one of the airlines that sponsors NGPA. They have an internal tracker in HR for the # of NGPA members they have hired at the airline each year, and use those results to legitimize the investment that the airline makes to the organization.
I imagine that most airlines do something similar with special interest demographics/ group memberships.

Anyone who says they wouldn’t take advantage of this same opportunity is lying. Everyone’s path is different but we all have the same goal.

Kind of a broad and insulting statement there, especially to those of us who have spent hours on days off doing union volunteer work.

Embarrassed is a little bit of an over reaction. You me and everyone else would have jumped at the opportunity to be these CFIs. If I was told I could CFI for a couple years and then be in a class at United it would have been a dream come true. I would have loved to have skipped the garbage pay, work rules and treatment from those **** hole regionals.

That doesn’t change the fact that it is an absolutely unreasonable and unearned gift, though. In this environment? You’ve got to be kidding me. With all the hiring Delta and American have been doing, along with our goofy selection and lack of hiring, we’ve already been missing out on a lot of good candidates. This just adds to it. Nobody here is taking their CFI friends into a meet and greet.
So again, it is embarrassing. To some of us.

I also find it embarrassing, and frustrating. It’s been beaten to death but there is zero reason to be doing this. There aren’t CFIs coming from anywhere else to DL, AA, UPS, here, etc. But I think everyone also recognizes that they would have jumped at this chance had it been available. Of course.

At what point have you “Earned” a job at the majors? Where is that line?

I can’t answer that, but I understand what you’re asking. Every airline hires folks way less competitive than others. But this is the absolute bottom of qualifications and there’s no reason for that.

I agree with you.
But I don’t want to tell these CFIs they didn’t earn it.......they earned it in their own way. It just seems like everyone wants to crucify these guys without knowing anything about them. I don’t like that.....
