I know someone with 13 air medals, great time, lots of combat transport/crew time going for an interview with another airline. Tired of the games UAL is playing.

"United is pleased to offer their experienced Captains an opportunity for more splendid flying combined with a superior opportunity to instruct in a real-world environment on a daily basis without add pay or any other incentive."

Please do not make this a military vs civilian thing.
If someone is a highly-experienced (and highly thought of) turbine pilot from RJs, F-16's, corporate, C-17's... or even the Recce world, then I find the hiring process suspect when a comparatively low-time, non-turbine Bonanza CFI gets the nod ahead of them. Do you not find this odd? What am I missing?

HR hires pilots it’s the only way to not get sued. It’s all very sad and it will never change because everyone is so sensitive and in tune to micro aggressions.

Similar story from the late 90's.. my buddy was the all time high composite score for Naval Air Training, total team player, liked by all, Top Gun Instructor, etc, etc. and just could NOT get an interview at United. Fortunately for him, he went to Southwest and has enjoyed a pretty good career. There's little rhyme or reason to who gets an interview and who doesn't. Apply to all the majors, take the first good offer .. that's the way it always has been and the way it will most likely continue to be.

The company talks a big game about being a world class airline, but actions speak louder than words.
I too know a great guy that was never offered an interview here and is now at Delta. Yet, we seems to have no problems with hiring low time pilots or some sort of CFI flow through.
Your friend will have a great career at some other airline.. win for them, and him. For us.. oh well.
Just my opinion.
Motch
PS) Then again, we will turn down a United Express Captain yet the company will let him fly United Passengers a few days later under the 'express banner'. Unreal

I would guess nepotism.

You guys are a riot. You talk about how awful United is for turning down good folks who then end up at Delta as if United is the only one turning down folks perceived as “great dudes” at interviews.
Interviewing is like test taking, some are good at it, some are not. And each test is different. Delta, American, United, SWA FedEx and UPS have all turned down “great guys,” too, some of whom have ended up at United.
Being so stressed and angry takes years off the back end of your life. On the positive, you won’t have to fund your RHA.
