United Hiring Brief (2/9/18)

Uh, he’s been here 5 years. I think you need to take a hard look in the mirror. You said yourself you can’t get along with “most” new hires. That attitude makes you the weakest link according to LEAP training. Too bad you slept through it.

Yeah that same Dad taught me a lot about history......I lived through a bankruptcy. I don’t give a damn if I have Street cred in your eyes. It’s painfully obvious why you don’t get along with the people you fly with. There’s no way but your way....no way to think but the way you think.
I also lived through a regional CEO that lied to my face for 7 years straight.

In 10 years when your surrounded by CFI's who will vote in contracts recommended by your newly formed Ops Group, we'll chat then.

Alright I'm also getting pretty sick of you guys thinking that you are somehow insulting me with this "your dad got you hired BS". My dad did one thing and that was introduce me to his friends. It was up to me to set up the meetings, make them my friends and present my qualifications. It was up to them to recommend me.
I took the same Hogan as everyone else.
I sat in front of the same panel as everyone else.
I flew the same 737 sim as everyone else.
I had no special treatment. From the time I took my first flight hour until today I'v had a clean record, no failures. I have a 4 year degree with a high GPA. I have ran a flight school, been a CA in a 135 operation and flew for the regionals as an FO and a CA. My dad had nothing to do with any of that except for providing support and advice.
I earned this job at United and I'm damn proud I did, because I could have screwed it up at any time. Shame on any one who thinks they can put me down because I a am a legacy. I love aviation because of my dad. There is ALOT more pilots at United than just me who's mother or father flew for United and I'm proud to be a Legacy. I still think about sitting at the airport as a little kid asking my Dad what every airplane was that went by, he taught me how to identify a plane based on the trucks and engine placement.
So get over the dad thing it its a pointless and tired put down.

I suggest you look through my posts again Halfster. Never said "most" ever and remarked that a remarkably higher number than usual were less than acceptable. If I remember correctly it was 1% in the past and above 5% lately.
Don't let facts get in your way.

While I don’t need a safe space, I can attest this is difficult news to digest. As a person that has wanted to work at United since the days of my PPL, it seems as if I’ve been trying to hit a moving target with terrible aim. They said build turbine time and get PIC, so I did that (5000/1500). They said get a 4-year degree, so I went to school full time for three years on my days off and earned my bachelor. They said community service is a big plus on a resume, so I volunteered at the local food bank. They said letters of recommendation help, so I went out and got 12 from current and retired United pilots (including 3 LCA’s and a CP). They said you get points on your application for attending job fairs, so I went to three of them. They said recency of Part 121 experience is important, so I left corporate aviation and returned to 121 a few years ago. Thus far, crickets.
I did not come here in search of sympathy nor pity but rather to confirm the words of a previous poster that yes it does feel like “we’re taking it on the chin yet again.” I don’t hold any animosity towards the CFI’s that have been hired as I’d be the first through the door if in their shoes. However, I can only hope they realize their seat in said class most likely comes at a disadvantage and that every opportunity to quell said encumbrance is heeded.
I’ll be sure to let you know when the crickets stop chirping.

I'm happy and optimistic. The only thing that multiple bankruptcies and furloughs get you is a garbage attitude that puts a chip on your shoulder for the rest of your life. As much as you think its healthy to be a crusty, calloused downer its not......you just push everyone away. No one will ever listen to you.
We listen to OldMako, Airhoss, Probe, Sunvox, Grumble, Dave Fitzgerald(one of the best CAs I ever flew with, that is a CA that will teach you something and you want to listen to intently)......etc. They have been through it yet can still teach history without being arrogant about it.
