If awarded CA as a new hire can you bid over to 75/76 FO at some point?

The IOE reference above is no longer applicable with the new contract. Additionally there are special rules for getting the assignment as a new hire assignment.

Here is the relevant contract language:

8-D-1-e-(1) New Hire Pilots or Probationary Pilots who have not yet reached Section 9-K-1 qualifications on the date they receive the Captain vacancy award will be subject to an Equipment training freeze for twenty-five (25) months upon reaching the Section 9-K-1 qualifications.

9-K Pilots who have been awarded or assigned a Captain vacancy and who do not satisfy the probationary requirements of Section 8-I-1-a as of the start of Captain upgrade aircraft training shall be considered as “Accelerated Pilots” and subject to the following:
9-K-1 An Accelerated Pilot must meet the following requirements before starting Captain upgrade aircraft training:
9-K-1-a Complete their probationary CQ event as a First Officer.
9-K-1-b Complete a minimum of 350 hours of Flight Time as a United First Officer in the Equipment for which they hold a Captain vacancy.
9-K-1-c Not have had any short cycles or be the subject of a Probationary Review Panel during their initial New Hire training or continuing qualification training.

The Probationary CQ event in 9-K-1-a is at 6 months (usually) , so basically the limiting factor is usually the 350 hours to meet the 9-K-1 minimums.

Therefore you will get a 25 month freeze (from 8-D-1-e-(1)above) that commences when you meet all the 9-K-1 requirements which is probably going to be when you have 350 hours as an FO

Has anyone from the cargo world (specifically brown) made the switch to United and gotten assigned a captain slot? I understand no one has moved over to the left seat yet since captain slots started being offered to new hires. If there is anyone I'd like to pick your brain. It's just something I've been thinking about.

Quite a few of us from purple have. A decent amount have bid for CA. None that I know of have trained yet.

Why are we still hiring at the current pace if we are getting over 100 less A/C deliveries this year? Something doesn’t add up

Do you have an inside source telling pilots were offered CJOs last week?
Pilots beginning class next week would have been assigned that date before the max 9 debacle began. I would not be surprised to see smaller classes in the next couple of months, but I would have been more concerned if there was an immediate knee jerk reaction to shrink classes and push back start dates.
