GUM isn’t a bad gig if you don’t have school age children and/or have a significant other who needs to be near family for whatever reason. Extra $3500 enough to cover nice housing, and our medical insurance will get you in with the better doctors. Lots of travel opportunities and ability to condense schedules is a plus. Beaches, restaurants and water sports are top notch due to it being a second tier getaway for people on that side of the world.

I've been sent to a lot of worse places than Guam for a lot less than 2nd year FO plus UA housing allowance. And I remember Guam. There wasn't anything on the island more than about 30 miles from anywhere else on the island. Being on short call reserve there would be a piece of cake.
