Looks like 320 FO IAH, 737 FO IAH, 756 FO EWR, 737 CA DEN, EWR, SFO

So is this the beginning of NH CA bids?

Yes, but.... anyone with a CA bid will be an FO for a while. At the very least you do the Q course for FO and spend 9ish getting 500 hours. Then you come back to TK and do the full course again followed by 100 hours of OE. There is a whole slew of contractual stuff that has to happened to the 17k pilots senior to you before that can happen.

Q - Why don't I just bid CA and wait for my turn?
A - When you bid into a new seat you have no control over when you go to training. That is one of the many reasons we have unfilled vacancies. Guys don't want their holiday plans ruined. They are sitting on their bid until the next round trying to game the schedule and get a class after then new year.

IMHO there will be another wave that take the upgrade after the new year. There will be another wave that take the upgrade right before the best reserve improvements are implemented. All this hand wringing about direct hire CAs will be like a bad memory.

I think it's great. Unbelievable by historical standards here but still pretty awesome. Enjoy this blip in time while it lasts

Do the new hires who bid captain get captain pay right off the bat?

Default New Hire Captains

At 350 hours they start getting Captain pay. At 500 hours and off of probation they will upgrade to captain. It is possible that the company will waive probation have them upgrade from FO to CA at 350 hours but it does not seem likely at this time unless the company gets desperate. Essentially they will serve as FO for 12 months then upgrade to CA.

Has anybody thought about how having more junior Captains will affect a potential furlough?

Would they furlough the bottom, say, 15% of the seniority list regardless of CA/FO status, or would it bifurcate based on position? Probably has never been an issue before, but I can see it being one now given the unprecedented nature of having NH CA (yes, after 500 hours, etc)...
