This is not true. I have multiple friends—who I have flown with—who are sharp pilots with good resumes at LCC/non-UA regional who have received a TBNT recently.
I know the interview process can be a crapshoot but seeing some of the resumes UAL has said yes to, and then seeing those friends get the TBNT, has me quite confused.

I know five people who interviewed at UAL from my regional and didn’t get the job over the last two years. One froze during the interview and couldn’t form coherent sentences to answer questions from the HR rep, one got defensive with an interviewer when they felt they were being antagonized, one struggled with the basic technical scenarios, one is pretty loud and arrogant and the last was the MEC chairman who basically ended his interview with “I flow to AA in April and have a Delta CJO and am waiting on a class date there.”

For what it’s worth, I was hired end of last year and on property currently here. Just my take based on my experience during the hiring process: the whole person concept is big ie what value do you bring beyond flying skills as United seems to be emphasizing a lot of corporate employment aspects for United Next rather than more traditional interviews.
I did my own research on prep and didn’t pay a company. Presented my self as the “hero of my own story”. I had 10 various stories based on my professional and personal experiences and used those to answer questions. I also incorporated CRM/TEM principles into my answers demonstrating additional skills I bring to the table. I didn’t even bother trying to wrote memorize questions. For the tech, just was professional, showed up prepared, and when asked if I was doing it as a Fo or Ca I said CA of course (coming from a ACMI FO job).
Used the same prep/interview technique for multiple airlines and got CJO’s from UAL, DL, and SWA. Not saying prep CO’s aren’t good, just chose to use my own research as I was already at a pretty good widebody intl gig.
My background going into interview: Mil warrant officer RTP, regional CA with 6600TT, 2700FW, 1100TPC, widebody ACMI FO with 75/76 type, no degree.

If they failed in the interview, it probably has to do with their personality and presentation of themselves or preparation for the interview.

How much higher I suppose is up for debate, if new hires are coming aboard with 250 hrs turbine time. (Assuming the 250hrs of turbine time didn’t come after 3000hrs in a DC-6.)

All the major aviation job fairs. NGPA, Women in Aviation, PAPA, OBAP, RTAG. Those are the key events. They are worth the time and money, Sign up early and watch for when signups for scheduled meet and greets at each of them.

The assertion on a previous page was that UAL is hiring anyone with a pulse. This is a lot of examples—plus my acquaintances who got the TBNT after interviewing—that UAL’s preferred quals are still higher than the fog a mirror test.

Their hiring methods have been bizarre for 6-7 years, but now they're just amplified.

Sounds like they didn’t interview well…
I know someone if you have taken a look at their resume, it looks great on paper…. But when it came tech portion, they could do basic 3 to 1 math or did bother studying the packet that they sent him.
He wondered why he didn’t get a TBNT…..
Just remember, because someone looks good on paper. Doesn’t always translates to showing up with their a minimum of a A- game for their interview….
