If you have a lot of offline commuting options to LGA, I would pick EWR. With how much of the bus flying is there, it’s super easy and has far less delays than EWR.

ATL to LGA has a lot of options, but it’s also where everyone else on the planet goes. Dilemma!

Default Reserve question

Now that WBs are a thing out right out of training (crazy times) can someone give a basic explanation of the differences between reserve and global reserve?

I understand the length of time on reserve would be a lot longer, but if I’m willing to live at EWR would it be that bad of QoL to be on a 777/787 from the start?

The main difference is WB only has 6 hard days off per month (and they are all one block). All your other days off can be rolled for a trip, with certain restrictions. Living in base on WB reserve is quite nice. I have worked 3 trips in the last 8 months. A 4 day domestic, a 1 day domestic and a 4 day global trip that rolled one day off. I was assigned that because I was on short call. This is on the 777, I don’t know what life is like on sparky, they may be busier.

If your scheduled for a class and recruiting emails to move you up a week or two, do you have to take it?

You do not. But it may buy you 50-100 seniority numbers you will have for the rest of your career. If at all humanly possible I recommend taking early class.

caveat: I’m assuming that the email said “we have some earlier class slots available if you’re interested” and not “we are changing your class date to x”.

So, with all WB reserves starting out on 12-hr call-out, how often do you get switched to short-call? is it an option for commuters to try to stay on long-call as much as possible?
Thanks!

I got an e-mail, I responded to it within minutes of getting it, and the spots were already taken. I'd have loved to get the extra 50+ seniority! Darn it.

it depends on how many people are on reserve. On the 777, you can probably count on getting 2-3 SC a month. They have just started throwing in more FSB as well. There is the option to not pick up a SC or FSB, but if you at the top of the FIFO list and they assign one to you, there is no backing out of it.
