The federal law (McCaskill-Bond) that supposedly governs such things applied. But there is a big loophole in that law and SWA went right to the heart of it. So much so that the AirTran voluntarily accepted the 2nd (much worse) offer than accept the alternative once all the cards were on the table.

The loophole still exists.

We're the major being chastised by Wall Street for aggressive growth and Spirit steps into MCO with 14 new international destinations between now and November...

Meanwhile the report is that the yields don't exist in Florida while central Florida continues unbridled growth in education, business, and technology...oh yeah, and they are still number one in tourism though I think everyone just drives there these days...

As was previously mentioned SWA was not. The material point is they both are; as are we. Just say no.

It's not that there's not traffic.... it's just that EVERY carrier in the world serves MCO/Sanford. There is uber competition that limits yields.

See your first paragraph for one reason that a major has avoided building a hub in MCO.

Obviously there's money to be made in MCO, it's just that many airlines find ways to make more money in other places.

Managing regional feed and a merger are entirely unrelated. Every single regional feed is jacked up at every major.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if we do merge with an LCC.

It wouldn’t be a merger. It would be a purchase. Big difference. Not like UAL and CAL which was a merger.

The whole idea of buying the pieces and "hiring" the pilots is a delusion. As far as you and I are concerned, it would be a merger. And guys like me would be totally hosed.

That makes no difference when it comes to ALPA merger policy.

Orlando is SWA’s least profitable hub due to taxes and fees.

Nothing I would like more than an Orlando hub to pull tons of folks senior to me to Central Florida. But not a good financial move for anybody but those specific folks. Maybe Tampa or Ft Myers.
Probably not.
