And remember, because it’s been a while since it has been mentioned, if you get the 756 in initial you are SEAT LOCKED for 2 years. You will ONLY be able to bid to other 756 bases or WB FO. After 2 years you will be able to down bid to the 737/320, but you will have a HARD FREEZE for 2 years that will only allow you to bid CA on the plane you are a current FO on.
If you get the 737/320 you will be able to bid up to the 756, or WB FO, at any time you wish due to the pay increase.

EWR and DCA flying is actually quite good. The west coast not so much.
The main reason is no new hires want it, or should not want it, is they will be junior for a very long time. Also, the seat lock is very restrictive. The top of the list is much more senior than the buss or guppy. Meaning reserve forever. Unless you live in base, and I'm guessing most NH's won't, commuting to reserve is almost unworkable from a family standpoint.

East coast bases definitely have awesome flying variety. IMO that would be one of the few big plusses over the 737/320.

It's not that the position is unpopular its just that since we accepted a pay equalization between 757s and 737s there is no longer an incentive for junior FOs to move from 737 to 757 unless they are senior enough to hold international trips.
I never thought about this before, but it could be a real problem for new hires placed in that position. They could stay junior for an exceptionally long time because pilots just senior to them might wait and bid 756 only when they are senior enough to fly international, and that process might take a while to conclude.
