Don't get too excited. The drop in demand has more to do with Little Rocket Man than anything else...or so I'm told.

The Japanese do get a little skittish from time to time when it comes to travel. Remember SARS? Hawaii is just as easy to get to.

But an additional Island Hopper added so it can be flown by LA/SFO crew someday soon just like 89pistons claimed.

A bit off-topic but what's Guam like as a vacation destination? Headed to Palau in February and thinking about adding a week in Guam (as opposed to Hawaii, since it'll be the rainy season in Hawaii.)

Any info would be great.

When I was on the 756 I went out there to do a couple GUM-NRT turns for a week before heading back to the US. Another pilot told me, "Imagine if you take Honolulu and Tijuana and put them in a blender. Well, that's Guam."

Joking aside, the beaches were nice and it's a great launching off point for diving from what I understand. It's definitely the "Japanese/Korean Cancun" though.

Guam is a dump. Sorry Guamsters but it's the truth. Great for a launching point, but it's a tiny island. If you overturn every rock there, then you'll see everything in 5 days, otherwise one day is enough. And to even think you would consider Guam for a week to Hawaii!! Biggest joke ever. A ton of gigantic outlet malls for the asian charter flights. And the chimorros definitely do not like the Americans there, especially when the marines all rolled in there a few years back. Too much testerone chasing the few chimorro chics. Yeah, and you'll have some old timer L-CAL guys telling you how great it WAS. It WAS, but is no more. Go to Palau and the other islands for the best diving and sightseeing and get away from the hordes of asian tourists that have nothing to do on Guam, except shop and hang at their so-so resort. I would say, don't even waste one day in Guam, and this is coming from someone that travels the world extensively.

Wow. Well, that's pretty definitive. Outlet malls? I want to stay as far away from outlet malls as I can. And the hordes of Asian package tourists...yeah, I know exactly what that's like. Or even worse: the Russian package tourists who have utterly conquered Phuket.

Palau seems pretty perfect. But I have 3 weeks off and that seems too long to spend in 1 place. Done 6 trips to the Andaman islands off Thailand (Surins, Similans, Lanta, etc), one to the Maldives, and multiple trips to various laid-back Caribbean islands (since flattened by the hurricanes.) so Palau seems perfect. I just can't figure out where else to go. Kauai seems like a plan but not during the rainy season.

Good problems to have, I guess...
