I always see “Minimum” Requirements but find myself wondering, “What are the ‘Actual’ Requirements?” I see in the United Profile that “1,000 Fixed Wing Turbine Time” is listed as the minimum(s). I say “minimum(s)” because surely I’m not the only person who feels like there’s much much more below the surface of this generalized minimum.
In an industry as everchanging as ours I can’t help but wonder IF folks being hired from the UA pool are closer and closer to that minimum, or “bottom of the pool” if you will. I’d surely love to know if anyone could help.

In 2016 - The avg new hire had around 5000TT, avg age was late 30's, and about half of every new hire class was military. The military guys brought the TT avg down. I think a solid WAG at being competitive is 7000TT civilian and 2500 Military. Hours only get you so far though. They are looking at the big picture and sometimes the small picture. Regional FO's with zero pic time were hired right along with 62 yr olds with logbooks older than that FO. I would recommend career fairs and networking to increase your odds.

The problem with the current minimums are they are just a filter not the target.
Major airlines always have a big pool to choose from, it’s the entry airlines who are having difficulty finding qualified applicants.

And that correlates with what the entry airlines are willing to pay qualified applicants.
