I think there is a RSV guide in content locker.

Look at the Reserve Gouge 5.5 sticky on the other forum.

You're on long call for the month until or unless you pick up or they assign you a SC for the following day. Long call callout is 13 hours.

Short Calls are typically published each day for the next day. This used to be done early each AM and the ones not picked up (at 1100) were then assigned by about noon. But, no more. Now they will frequently publish a few here, then a few there. This stinks because a guy junior to you might just wind up with the window that you wanted, but you jumped at an earlier window. This is a new and unwelcome change, particularly for commuters. Guys will claim that this is not new, but I submit they are mistaken because I was on reserve before they began this tactic.

At any rate, if you desire a SC you bid what you can hold within silo or silo minus one. IE a 4 day guy can bid a 4 or 3 day SC trip.

If you don't want a SC assignment, say on your last day of a stretch, you can almost expect them to build one just for YOU! Yes, you are that special. Expect it to be an early one, say 0800. That ought to tie you up for most of the day whereas if you were on Long Call, you'd effectively be done by 10 AM.

Call out time for SC is 2.5 to show, 3.5 to go. ADD PAY is optional for the company if a SC guy is able to beat the 2.5 hour limit, and it works for them.

SC window is about 15 hours. This allows 9 hours rest per 24 for FAR purposes.

SC's published in any given morning are available to be picked up (Aggressive Pick UP) buy long call maggots beginning at 1100 local.

As mentioned, first two SC's are freebies. SC's 3-4-5 are one hour ADD PAY each. I'll shoot you a PM regarding a few other tips.

Enjoy.

Anyways, 12 guys with 3+ and one with 8. Looks like what's a PITA for commuters is actually a plus for local guys.

How exactly does SC work? Are you assigned a specific window? Can they call you anytime?

I guess I should probably read up on RSV rules at some point.
communications section of content locker has good reading on reserve work rules. all kinds of good info on the ALPA website if you go searching for it.

DYK did you know from ALPA plus other PDF's. you gotta dig to get what you need but it is all there and some great material.

Remember the contract limits rsv pay by APU of SCs to 3 hrs above 73 hr guarantee. I know many have received 8+ hrs of add Pay by APU multiple SCs... you think company won't come after this Pay, after the fact, your crazy... just matter of time.

You can pick up a SC via CCS or Crew Companion. I have run into glitches in the past with Crew Companion that have caused me to miss picking up SCs that I would have wanted. If you don't pick one up yourself, CS can and will call to assign one and they do it according to your Silo.

When SCs happen to become visible in CCS/CC varies greatly along with the number available. Usually, they first pop open for the next day at the 1100 APU window... sometimes they don't come open until around 1pm.... and sometimes I barely see any. If I intend to play SC roulette, I do so with the intent of showing up as late as possible my first day on reserve or getting released as early as possible on my last. That is why it is important to put in SC pickup requests in CC and to back them up by checking CCS at 1100/1300ish.

Once you have picked up say a 2000 Tuesday SC via CCS at the 1100 APU on a 'last-day-off' Monday... you are not going to be called until 2000 Tuesday at the earliest (unless maybe they release you from SC to assign you a trip in 12 hrs). I got hosed badly the other day after picking up an 0200 SC and with no open trips visible at 2300 bedtime... they called at exactly 0200 for an 0430 mx ferry show time. *&^%$#$@%*!!!!!

A SC officially lasts 14 hours, but after 11.5 hrs you are effectively unusable even for a DH (unless you agree to accept extra pay to be at the airport in less than 2.5). It is not unusual to get released a couple hours early from a SC that will go unused... and be assigned a trip with a showtime in 12 hours. You still get credit from the unused SC though.

At some point the Company might have the computing power to track that but until then it's an hour of Add Pay on unused SCs after 2. As for the Company clawing back pay in the future for their lack of oversight, I don't see that happening. But I've been wrong before.

If instead of picking up a SC, you simply have one assigned to you and then don't get used, does that still count? I was also under the impression that CS was assigning everyone to SC all the time leaving virtually no one on long call, true?

They have set the precedent of paying for the SC picked up by the RSV. They have been doing it for almost 3 years so I don't know how they could claim they weren't aware of what they were doing. I don't think a clawback grievance would go in their favor.

One other caveat. On short call, they can release you, and assign a trip with a show time 10 hours later. I had a 2000 SC, they called at 0004, and assigned a 1004 show time ferry flight.
