SWA has suspended operations at Hobby until the afternoon of the second. They can't staff ground ops when folks are recovering from a disaster, access is limited, and infrastructure at the airport is damaged or destroyed.
I suspect that date may even be a little optimistic, as they are just now coming to grips with the magnitude of the flooding damage. The people who staff the airports and make things happen need to feel safe and have their families taken care of prior to returning to work. That may be a long time for some folks.

Thanks. Didn't see that. However united seems to think its opening tomorrow at noon. And the official website seems to be useless for info. Wish they'd give more accurate and timely updates since it's the official site. If it isn't opening for a while because of the water system why not put that out there?
I suspect it will take days before they can even complete an assessment of the infrastructure at the airport.
The last thing they want is an outbreak of some water-borne disease from passengers being exposed to contaminated water or waste system.

They can't report what they don't know. There is no upside to a bureucrat putting out optimistic forecasts when they don't have all the info.

Bulletin on my FP says airport opened today at 4pm CT per FAA NOTAM. No idea what type of operation they are running over there, but just saw a last minute trip pop open for a flight to IAH tomorrow AM at 6:30ish out of SFO.
